Yashasvi Jaiswal scripted his name in the record books of cricket with a magnificent double hundred against England in the third Test of the five-match series. This was Jaiswal's second double ton as he also breached the 200-run mark in the second Test as well. In the third match, he remained unbeaten at 214 off 236 balls and helped India set a target of 557 against England. The hosts then went on to bundle out the Ben Stokes and co for 122 and register a victory by 434 runs.
After the match, Jaiswal had a lovely interaction with Anil Kumble, where the former India spinner motivated him to try his hands at spin bowling. Kumble told Jaiswal to ask skipper Rohit to give him some overs to bowl.
"Well done on your batting. But one thing that I have seen which I want you to continue as well is that you have a natural leg spin. Yes, and action. So don't give up on that. Because you never know when that will come in handy. know you've had a back spasm, but when you're working so much on it. Go tell the skipper to give a few overs," Kumble told Jaiswal on Jio Cinema.
Replying to which, Jaiswal said, "I'm always going and bowling, bowling and bowling. He (Rohit) told me to be ready, and I said yes I am ready."
The 22-year-old opener also entered the record books by hitting the highest number of sixes (12) by an Indian in a Test innings in the Rajkot Test.
"Test cricket is hard, but I thought that when I'm in there, I need to give my 100 per cent. I'm just trying. Whenever I'm set, I try to make it big. Because in Test cricket you never know, when you're playing well you have to make it big," said Jaiswal.
"It was pretty difficult for me because initially I wasn't getting runs. So had to play the session, and get set. That's when I felt I could score runs. After a while my back was not good. I didn't want to go out (of the field) but since it was too much, I went out. Today when I came, I wanted to make sure that I take the game forward and bat till the end," he added.
