Fu Baorong's 23rd minute goal gave defending champions China a 1-0 win over Australia in a Champions Trophy women's field hockey match in Sydney, Australia on December 2. China has played the top three sides in the world over the past four days, drawing with world number one Argentina and beating second-ranked Netherlands. In other games, the Netherlands beat South Korea 4-3 and Argentina beat England 2-0. The Australians may well rue the result, having failed to convert four penalty corners late in the match. Argentina and China, with two wins and a draw apiece, lead the standings with seven points each after three matches, followed by Australia who have recorded two wins and a loss. The Netherlands and South Korea, 1-2, are tied for fourth place with three points each, while England have lost all three of their games in the competition. The teams have the day off on Wednesday. On Thursday, China plays South Korea, England takes on the Netherlands and Australia plays Argentina. The top two teams after round-robin then meet in Sunday's gold medal final. (AP)
