Arjun Atwal brought home a modest card of one-under 71 to be placed tied 95th along with Tiger woods after the first round of the Buick Open golf tournament in Michigan here.
The Orlando-based Indian, who missed the cut last week in the RBC Canadian Open, sank in five birdies against a couple of bogeys and a double bogey at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club.
Playing his back nine first, Atwal picked up birdies at the 10th and 12th hole but a double bogey on the 13th and subsequent bogeys on the 15th and 18th hole pulled him back. A birdie at the 16th reduced the damage as he made the turn at one-over.
Atwal made amends in his backward journey and sank in birdies on the second and seventh hole to end the day under-par.
At the top, American Steve Lowery fired a nine-under 63 to grab a one stroke lead over Australian John Senden (64). There is a four-way tie for the third place between Y E Yang of South Korea, Australian James Nitties and Americans Vaughn Taylor and Brian Vranesh.
