Australia all-rounder Shane Watson is likely to skip the first Test against West Indies in Dominica from June 3, following the the birth of his second child on Saturday. Watson has been allowed to skip the only three-day warm-up against West Indies Cricket Board President's XI from May 27.
Watson shared the news of the birth of his daughter on social networking site, Twitter.
The all-rounder has delayed his departure to the West Indies and knows this could not work in his favour when the playing XI is decided ahead of the first of three Tests starting June 3.
"They've said that I don't have to play the tour game, but obviously there is going to have to be a certain amount of time for me to get there, if it works out that way, to be able to play the first Test," Watson had earlier said, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
"Coming off playing Twenty20 cricket, and then it's a long flight and recovering from a long flight into a Test match, I'm going to have to have a decent enough sort of lead-up. There is no doubt there will be a certain cut-off date at some stage," he added.
Watson will be fighting for place in the final line-up and faces challenge from emerging all-rounder Mitchell Marsh.
