MS Dhoni - Starts off saying that the bowlers really bowled well. Says the batsmen did not bat well overall, but the effort in the second innings with the ball was terrific. Admits they lost wickets at crucial times, the match did not go all five days but was exciting throughout. Confesses that bowling the home team out cheaply brought them back into the game, and they will have to repeat it. India did not start their chase well losing Vijay early in their innings in the final session on Day 3. This morning, Dhawan and Kohli played brilliantly, to bring India in the game well, both scoring fifties. Dhawan went on to score his second Test hundred, but fell for 115. Rahane and Rohit were dismissed on either side of the Tea break pegging India back. Jadeja and Dhoni tried to resurrect the chase with a counter attack but failed to do so as Wagner and Boult bowled brilliantly to ensure the home side won the match by 40 runs.
India, in their reply were bowled out for a low score with Rohit Sharma being the only positive for them scoring a fifty. The New Zealand pace bowlers shared all the wickets amongst themselves as they really bowled brilliantly. India roared back into the match, thanks to some fine bowling from their pacers as they bundled out the home side for just 105. Shami Ahmed and Ishant Sharma were the best bowlers for the India.
What a Test match we've had! It started with India winning the toss, inserting the Kiwis in, getting them down to 30-3 only for a brilliant double century from the New Zealand skipper McCullum. He not only got them back into the match but along with a superb ton from the in-form Williamson got New Zealand past 500. Ishant took six wickets but was on the expensive side.
What a finish! New Zealand struck crucial blows at the stroke of Tea dismissing Dhawan and Rahane. India then came back hard with Jadeja and Dhoni but Wagner and Boult once again struck, picking up wickets at regular intervals to ensure the visitors never got away. Dhoni tried his best yet again to script something special but failed to do so. India yet again struggle to win a Test overseas since 2011.
