Monde Zondeki Profile

Monde Zondeki is a raw, pace bowler, who plays for South Africa. He began as a leg-spinner, but then changed his style to fast bowling when he found that he was more talented that way. He has played first class cricket for Border, Cape Cobras and Warriors, and Warwickshire at the county circuit. Mfuneko Ngam was the original pace bowling replacement for Allan Donald, but with so many injuries to Ngam, it was Zondeki who replaced him. In fact, Zondeki was chosen over Donald for the 2003 World Cup.

He made his ODI debut at home against Sri Lanka, and bowled at sharp pace to claim a wicket. He then went on tour to England where his bowling a major let-down after the initial promise, but he did manage to show that he was no mug with the bat. However, the problem with Zondeki has been with his injuries. He has broken down way too often for his liking, and every time he would make a mark at international level, there would be an injury lurking by.

With Charl Langeveldt refusing to tour India in 2008, Zondeki was first chosen to make the trip, and then was awarded a central contract. This was after he was the leading wicket taker in the 2007-08 season with an average of less than 20.
