Arindam Das batted through the day to remain unconquered on 139 as he shared a 129-run opening stand with left-hander Rohan Banerjee, who made a sedate 42.
Arindam then hit a flurry of boundaries as Bengal managed to get past Hyderabad's first innings score of 115 before Anwar Ahmed who got five for 44 dismissed him. He got good support from A Ashish Reddy who also got five for 51.
Mumbai, who led Bengal by 96 runs in the first innings and started the day at 6 without loss, lost the wickets of Wasim Jaffer (19), Kaustubh Pawar (31) and skipper Rohit Sharma, who again flopped in the game by making 14, before the left-handed pair of Shah and Abhishek Nayar propped up the innings.
With none of the other Bengal batsmen, barring skipper Tiwary giving Das meaningful support as the Mumbai bowlers struck to their task relentlessly on a wicket affording good carry for the new ball bowlers and copious turn for Chavan, in particular.
Arindam Das responded to Manoj Tiwary's decision to bat first with an unbeaten 150 as Bengal were comfortably placed at 313 for two against Delhi.
