Eric Owen Simons Profile
Eric Simons was a genuine all-rounder who bowled right-arm fast-medium and batted in the South African middle-order. It was the age of 32 that Simons made his international debut in an ODI against Australia in 1994.
Over the next year, he played 23 ODIs and managed to grab 33 international wickets. Simons played the last match of his career in 1995 against New Zealand. Post retirement, he was appointed coach of the Western Province. He was then named South Africa’s national coach in 2002. However, he stepped down in two years following his side’s poor run of form. In 2008, Simons took up the responsibility of becoming India’s bowling coach along with former teammate Gary Kirsten, who was the head coach.
Simons was then signed by the Delhi Daredevils as their head coach for the fifth season of the IPL in 2012.
