Wicket-keepers' in domestic cricket are often judged by the number of runs than they score rather than their skills with the glove.
That's why its not surprising that Parthiv Patel might soon be on the verge of a comeback, courtesy his 179 in the Irani trophy and the loads of runs that he scored against South Africa A.
MS Dhoni need not worry since he's also the captain but Dinesh Karthik certainly needs to keep looking over his shoulder for this man. Parthiv Patel has had a dream run with the bat lately, 591 runs against South Africa A.
And if that was not enough, he made 179 and 59 not out for rest of India in the Irani trophy so is a call up around the corner.
"Well I am not worried about knocking on any door. It's important to get into that door.I am happy with the way I am playing. I have scored 5 100's in a row. That is quite satisfying and I am really happy for my batting," said Parthiv Patel, 19 Tests and 14 ODIs.
Parthiv's batting was never a concern. In 19 tests he managed four half centuries at an average of just under 32, it was his wicket keeping that was the problem area.
Many said it was a case of too much too soon, he played for India even before he played a Ranji game.
"Well I have played a lot of games, played full domestic season and played about 80 1st Class games.I have experienced a lot of things. Of course I have changed a bit of my technique. I have worked on my fitness and everything and I am glad that whatever I have worked on is coming up well," said Parthiv Patel.
Parthiv last played for India in 2004 and though he was picked for the tour of Pakistan in 2006.He never made the starting 11.
But at the ripe old age of 22, he's got many years to make a comeback.
