... THE RUN CHASE ...
-
!
Right then! Pakistan require 314 runs from 50 overs to go 1-0 up in the ODI series. The pitch is a good one to bat on and Pakistan would be confident going into the chase. The Aussies have a couple of leggies in their bowling attack and they would be key for Australia. Who will come out on top? Stay tuned to find that out as the chase begins shortly.

The debutant, Zahid Mahmood (10-0-59-2) comes up for a quick chat. The leggie says that he had planned for Alex Carey and wanted to bowl a googly from the leg stump line. Shares that there is some help for the spinners. Tells that they didn't bowl well at the start but recovered well towards the end. Mentions that the advice from Babar was to dry up the runs. States that they have good batters and hopes to chase down the target.

Pakistan's bowlers were taken to the cleaners in Powerplay 1 and it was their spinners who got them back into the contest. Zahid Mahmood got the wicket of Aaron Finch and Iftikhar Ahmed bowled tight lines and lengths to keep the Aussie batters on their toes. Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed got one wicket apiece and were quite economical. Head's wicket turned the tide back in Pakistan's favour and the run out of Ben McDermott completely sucked the momentum out of the Australian innings.

Australia got off to a great start and it was Travis Head who went absolutely berserk in Powerplay 1. Although Aaron Finch struggled to time the ball, he did manage to hang in there for a while alongside Head. They stitched together an opening stand of 110 runs before Finch departed. Head carried on in his merry way and brought up his second ODI hundred. After his departure, there was yet another stand between Ben McDermott and Marnus Labuschagne and the former also notched up his maiden ODI fifty. The run out of Ben gave Pakistan a good opening and they made full use of it by picking more wickets. It was the pair of Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green that provided some stability and it is Green's unbeaten knock of 40 that propelled Australia to a 300-plus total.

An excellent recovery at the backend from Pakistan! Australia would be a tad disappointed, in spite of crossing the 300-run mark, as they were cruising along nicely at the halfway mark and it seemed like the Aussies would easily cross 350, with plenty of batting still to come. They were 171/1 at one point but lost 6 wickets for 125 runs after that. Having said that, the tourists did score 81 runs in the last 10 overs and that ensured that they post a competitive total on the board.

FOUR! Green ends the innings well! Short in length, around middle, Cameron Green sits on the back foot and pulls it powerfully through square leg. The field had come up in that direction and the ball speeds away to the fence. 15 from the over, Australia finish on 313/7!
