... SECOND INNINGS ...

Right then, New Zealand had been bowled out on 348 and with the ball doing some mischief, moving both ways through the air, the Kiwi pacers would be aiming to get quick early wickets to put pressure on the English batters. England on the other hand won't shy away from their approach and will surely try to score runs at a good pace. A riveting next phase of play on cards, folks! Stay tuned.

For New Zealand, after putting into bat first, they didn't get a good start as they lost Devon Conway in the second over of the match. But it was followed by a strong partnership between skipper Tom Latham and Kane Williamson. The hosts dominated the first two sessions and what followed was a dramatic collapse. From a commanding position of being 199/3, New Zealand slipped to 252/7, losing Kane Williamson on 93. The middle order batters did get starts but couldn't extend those into substantial scores. It was Glenn Phillips who rescued New Zealand with his gutsy and pacy stint of 58 runs with the bat to propel the hosts past the 300-run mark. He got a good hand from Matt Henry and then a little cameo from Tim Southee as well.

A good day to start for England following an ascendancy towards the end of the first day.. They did the basic things right this morning. The seamers extracted the movement off the pitch and troubled the tailenders of New Zealand. Shoaib Bashir and Brydon Carse were the heroes for England as they shared four wickets apiece and ran through the middle order and the tailenders quite effectively. Gus Atkinson picked a couple as well while Chris Woakes bowled 20 overs but stayed wicketless.

New Zealand finish at 348.
