Sri Lankan off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will return to play for Lancashire in next year's County Championship. Muralitharan, the world's leading Test wicket-taker with 532 wickets, has had two spells at Old Trafford in 1999 and 2001. He will only be available for the first half of next season because of international commitments. Muralitharan has taken 166 wickets in 14 first-class matches for the Red Rose. He will be a tough prospect for division two batsmen following Lancashire's relegation this summer. Muralitharan is currently recovering after shoulder surgery. "It's great to have Murali on board again, he is an obvious leader in world cricket and will provide an added edge to the early part of the season," said Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson.
