That's it then from this game but the action in the Caribbean Premier League 2022 continues on Thursday, the 15th of September. Barbados Royals will take on Jamaica Tallwahs in the next game and that match will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our build-up will begin much sooner. Do join us then. Cheers!
Guyana Amazon Warriors skipper, Shimron Hetmyer says that they thought they will get over the line. Mentions that he takes the responsibility as a skipper, he should have played a mature knock. He says they will take the learning from here and take it one game at a time.
Kieron Pollard, the captain of Trinbago Knight Riders says the fans were always behind them and is happy to give them the win. Adds that they have been their constant twelfth man. Mentions that they will take a day off and then focus on how they tackle their next two assignments. Praises Akeal Hosein for coming back and having a great impact. Says that anyone is lucky to have Sunil Narine on their side, also adds that Colin Munro came in with an intent to bat and ends by saying it was a complete team performance.
Sunil Narine (26 off 20 and 2 for 9) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant all-round display. He says that it feels good batting down the order and contributing good runs and he and Kieron Pollard just looked to build a stand. Further says that they just wanted to do well in the Powerplay so that they can just try and finish the match early. Adds that he is ready to bowl any over whenever the team and the captain need him. Further says that they thank the crowd for coming in huge numbers and supporting them.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Shimron Hetmyer put Trinbago Knight Riders into bat first and the bowlers of Guyana Amazon Warriors picked up a couple of wickets inside the Powerplay. It was then a stand between the two Kiwis, Colin Munro and Tim Seifert that brought the Knight Riders back into the game. Romario Shepherd picked up wickets at the top and it was then Tabraiz Shamsi who showed his class with a four-fer. The efforts of Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard down the order managed to take their team to 150 runs. In reply, Guyana Amazon Warriors got off to a fast start but they kept on losing wickets at the wrong times. Soon enough, the spinners of Trinbago Knight Riders, Sunil Narine and Akeal Hosein were all over their batters and in the end, the Warriors ended up short, succumbing to their third loss.
Guyana Amazon Warriors will be kicking themselves after that performance. They were well ahead of the required rate but not a single batter tried to just consolidate the fast start and they kept on playing their shots which resulted in wickets tumbling at regular intervals. Four out of their top five batters got off to starts but none of them could go on to play a big innings. Colin Ingram did try to hold one end but he used up too many deliveries and couldn't kick on when needed. All in all, it was the batters that cost them the game after the bowlers had done more than a decent job.
Trinbago Knight Riders have been underperforming for the entirety of this season but with the players they have on their side, it was only a matter of time before they put on a big performance and it did come at an important point as well. After putting on their highest score this season, they have done superbly with the ball as well. Their bowlers were expensive in the Powerplay but did manage to pick up 3 wickets. It was in the middle overs when Akeal Hosein and Sunil Narine just ripped apart the opposition middle order and set up the deserved victory. Andre Russell then added the finishing touches as he ended up with three wickets just like Hosein.
Trinbago Knight Riders were in desperate need of points and they have taken bragging rights in this battle of the bottom two sides in the points table. They have humbled Guyana Amazon Warriors and have leapfrogged them in the points table as well to go up to fourth now. As for the Warriors, this defeat sends them to the foot of the table.
