So that is it from this game! Sri Lanka have sealed the series with a game to go. Bangladesh though still have pride to play for. The third and the final ODI of the series is going to be played on the 31st of July at 0230 local (0900 GMT). Till then, goodbye and take care!
Sri Lanka skipper, Dimuth Karunaratne, says they did really well and they are happy they won a series after a long time. States he wanted to bat first but he can't control the toss and he needed to do well in the game. Mentions the pacers did well and the spinners too were very good. Further adds Akila Dananjaya did really well on his comeback. Ends by saying the lines and lengths Akila bowled was very good and he built the pressure and that is exactly what they wanted.
Bangladesh skipper, Tamim Iqbal says they wanted to bat and added a spinner as they knew this wicket was going to spin. Admits that 270 would have been a good score on this wicket as it was not a 300 pitch. Further admits that it has been a disappointing series for them. Feels they have had their moments and adds that the 15 members that are here, they have full confidence in them and he does not want to talk about players that are not here. Tamim feels that they have not been able to capitalize when they were on top of the game and that has been the difference.
MAN OF THE MATCH, AVISHKA FERNANDO. On being asked about the change in batting position, Fernando says that he is happy to bat wherever the team requires him to. Admits that he is disappointed to miss out on a hundred but hopes to get it in the final ODI. On the pitch, Avishka tells that it got slower as the game progressed.
Mathews is now down for an interview. On being asked how it feels after winning a home series after so long, Mathews admits that they have not played good cricket for the last couple of years and further admits that they have disappointed the fans. Thanks them for still coming out in numbers and supporting them. On being asked what was the talk between him and Mendis out in the middle, Angelo tells that they had lost three wickets and the plan was to bat till the end as they knew they had a lot of time.
Earlier in the day, it was the Lankan bowlers who set up the victory. They bowled with a lot of discipline. Akila Dananjaya was the pick as he finished with a two-fer. For Bangladesh, it was Rahim's effort which single-handedly took them to 238 but it proved to be an easy chase for Lanka.
Bangladesh needed early wickets if they were to defend this total but they did not get any. Their bowlers were guilty of bowling either too short or too full which did not help them get assistance from the surface. Mehedi and Rahman did pick 1 and 2 respectively but it was after the damage was done. Overall, the Bangladesh players will not be happy with their bowling performance not only in this game but in the last one too.
The new ball was going to be crucial as the wicket was said to get slower as the game progressed and the Lankan openers came out all guns blazing. Especially Fernando, who hit the bowlers at will. The two added 71 and provided the ideal start. Perera then came in and kept the good work going with Fernando. The latter fell 18 short of a ton but he surely did his job. Perera too soon followed but Mathews and Mendis, with a 96-run stand, took Lanka over the line. Angelo Mathews got to yet another ODI fifty.
That was too easy for Sri Lanka! Two games and both have been won by them quite convincingly. In the first one they batted first and defended with relative ease and in the second one, they chased a total which many believed was under par.
