That's all we have from this game! Bangladesh did put up a fight for a while but eventually lost the plot, especially on the final day. Sri Lanka will be elated with their efforts, they are back to winning ways after returning home. The next match will take place in the capital city, Colombo, on 15th March, 2017 at 1000 local (0430 GMT). Will the Tigers draw level or will the Lions clinch the series? Do join us to find out. Until then, goodbye and take care! Have an exciting weekend, folks!
SRI LANKAN CAPTAIN, RANGANA HERATH is absolutely delighted with the record of becoming the most successful left-arm spinner in Test history. He thanks all those people who were right behind him and reckons that's the reason for his success. On the match, he says everything went on track but still there is room for improvement. Praises Kusal Mendis and Upul Tharanga for their knocks and concludes by saying he's enjoying his captaincy and he's getting good support from his mates.
BANGLADESHI CAPTAIN, MUSHFIQUR RAHIM says that it was a good pitch and wasn't that bad even on the final day. Congratulates the Lankan team for their victory and Herath for his individual glory. Laments the batting failure in the first innings which cost them big. Praises the bowlers for their efforts and feels that the batsmen let the team down. Expresses pleasure at the openers doing well and that gave his team hope at the start of the final day but again opines that the batsmen didn't apply themselves. Doesn't feel that they were a batsman short and also doesn't think that the no ball reprieve of Mendis off the first ball as a big moment in the game. Quickly adds that such things happen in cricket and admits that his team was outplayed totally in all departments.
KUSAL MENDIS (MAN OF THE MATCH) thanks the team and support staff for all the backing during his lean patch in recent times. He spoke in local dialect and the general meaning of his words were translated by Roshan Abeysinghe.
Bangladesh had a good start with both openers getting fifties in the first innings but then slumped with the middle order caving in. Rahim's 85 and his stand with Mehedi ensured that the follow-on was avoided but still the lead conceded was big. Tharanga's ton along with a Chandimal fifty gave Sri Lanka a lead that put the contest beyond Bangladesh. The visitors failed to capitalize on the good starts in both innings and paid a heavy price.
Rahim was the only batsman today to show some fight while Sarkar stroked a fluent fifty yesterday. Apart from the duo, there wasn't anything from the visitors in the fourth innings. Sri Lanka after opting to bat posted a fairly big score thanks to Mendis' brilliant 194. He got support from Gunaratne and Dickwella while Perera too chipped in. Mehedi was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh but the visitors were off color especially on the first day. Roy was extremely unlucky despite bowling quite well.
A purely clinical win by the Lankans as they go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series. Chasing a mammoth target of 457 was always going to be tough but Bangladesh did have a glimmer of hope of saving the game after the nice start by their openers yesterday. However, the Lankans were relentless today and the wicket in the first over of the day set the tone for the hosts. After lying low in the first four days, Herath came roaring into the party with a 6-fer, also becoming the most successful left-arm spinner in Tests.

Rangana Herath To Mehedi Hasan OUT!
OUT! In the air... gone! Rangana Herath wraps it up with a 6-fer! He has his hands aloft, a veteran for a reason! He gives it a nice flight once again around off, Mehedi Hasan tries to loft it down the ground but doesn't get enough meat on it. It's mistimed towards mid off where Lahiru Kumara moves a couple of steps back and takes a reverse cup catch over his head. That's it, SRI LANKA WIN BY 259 RUNS!
