That is it from this game and Perth Scorchers have now made it 4 wins out of 5 matches. Action in the Big Bash League 2022-23 continues as we inch closer to the new year. On Friday, the 30th of December, Melbourne Renegades will take on Sydney Sixers in Geelong. That game will begin at 1 pm IST (7.30 am GMT) but as usual, our build-up will begin much sooner. Do join us then. Take care and goodbye!
Jhye Richardson (4-0-25-4) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his outstanding bowling. He says that he is feeling good after a few little shaky weeks before the start of the tournament. Tells that it was an awesome experience to be on a hat trick in front of such a loud crowd and he hopes that he can get one in the future. Mentions that it was a very good performance from the boys. Adds that they stuttered a bit with the bat in the last game but says that it is great to see the boys making a strong comeback in this game. Hopes to continue the form in future games.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Adam Zampa won the toss and opted to bat first and after a more than decent start, the Stars' batters faltered against the quicks of Perth Scorchers. Jhye Richardson was the standout as he picked up 4 wickets and Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff got 2 wickets each in the bag. For the Stars, Joe Clarke looked solid at the top but the middle order was poor and it was only a solid knock from Hilton Cartwright and a few big hits by Trent Boult toward the end that took their total to 135. With a small total to chase down, the Scorchers didn't start on the front foot but played professionally and did the job with finesse thanks to a scintillating knock from their skipper Ashton Turner.
Melbourne Stars had a bit of momentum going into the break and got an early wicket as well but failed to take advantage. The opposition batters kept on chipping away and the Stars never got wickets in a heap which was necessary and the knock from Turner completely took the game away from them. Luke Wood got a couple of wickets and Trent Boult was very economical but they didn't have many runs to play with and were cast aside with ease.
Perth Scorchers had done a pretty good job with the ball and knew if they got a couple of batters who mustered up decent scores then they would seal the game but they didn't get the desired start. Faf du Plessis fell early and the Scorchers just kept on milking runs. Adam Lyth played well for his 35 but was unluckily dismissed and after a watchful start by Ashton Turner and Josh Inglis, the former just blasted the ball to all parts of the ground. The skipper got to fifty and with just 2 runs needed to win, got out but it didn't matter and his knock made all the difference.
This has been a professional performance from Perth Scorchers and they have eased their way to victory in the end. The Scorchers rocket to the top of the points table as well with this win. As for Melbourne Stars it is their 4th defeat in 5 games and they have a lot of work to do if they are to stay in touching distance of a playoff spot.
