So the South Africans are handed the trophy and they are now posing with it. They have bounced back really strongly after losing the Test series. Cricketing action though does not end between the two sides as the T20I series is yet to be played. The first game of the shortest format is on the 19th of March at 1800 local (1600 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
South African skipper, Faf du Plessis, Says tonight they would have preferred playing the full game but says the team has got better with each performance. On his bilateral series record, he says, that he wanted to do better in each one. Mentions he like chatting with the bowlers and find ways to get dismissals. Further adds the X factor they had was ability to take wickets. On the WC squad, he reckons, that he is quite sure who will travel. Ends by saying this tour has been a satisfying one for the squad.
Man of the Series, Quinton de Kock, says he is pleased with the manner he is contributing for his team. Further adds he is confident about his game at the moment. He believes he still has a lot more runs left in his tank and he hopes he gets selected for the World Cup and does well.
Man of the Match, Aiden Markram, says it is a good feeling. Feels restricting them under 250 was really crucial and he credits the bowlers for their performance. On his own performance, he admits it is a good feeling and it's a very important lesson to learn and reckons it was rewarding to be unbeaten at the end of the match. On his spot in the World Cup squad, Aiden says he is unsure about his spot but he just wants to do his work.
Sri Lankan skipper, Lasith Malinga, says that they tried hard but were not able to post a good total. Feels that the team has realized its potential. Mentions Udana and Mendis played well. Reckons the bowlers did well and a couple of wickets today would have changed it. On the World Cup squad, Malinga states, that the senior players are getting back and they have a local tournament and he expects someone to do really well and seal their place in the squad.
The technicians then tried their best to get the problem solved but could not do so. After a long delay, the umpire's finally decided to rule the game in favor of the home side courtesy (DLS).
The home side did lose de Kock early but then Faf du Plessis and Aiden Markram got the chase back on track with a 70-run stand. The dismissal of the former did give the Lankans a chance to get back in the game but Rassie and Markram, who scored a half ton, ensured the hosts continue having the upper hand in the game and added another vital 57-run unbeaten stand before the players were asked to walk off due to bad light.
Once again it was all South Africa in this game, similar has been the story of the series. Another day where the hosts' bowlers dominated and bundled the Lankans out for 225 which was surely an under par total.
A disappointing end to Tahir's and Duminy's last ODI in home soil. They though will be happy with the victory but it would have tasted a lot sweeter had it been a full game.
Another easy win for the South Africans, yes, it was a shortened game but they were way ahead of the 8-ball game. They have managed to inflict the whitewash on the Lankans.
The light issue hasn't been resolved and there is no further play possible tonight, which means, South Africa win the 5th ODI by 41 runs (DLS).
So the players are off! One of the floodlight tower is not being switched on and the umpires feel there is not enough light to continue play. FOR NOW, BAD LIGHT STOPS PLAY. Let us hope the issue is resolved quickly.
