That's it from us today. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. The action now shifts to Centurion for the 5th ODI. A match where Sri Lanka would be looking to end the tour with a win, while South Africa will eye the numero uno spot in the ODI rankings should they prevail victorious. Who will come out on top? Join us on February 10th at 1330 local (1130 GMT) to find out. Cheers!
MAN OF THE MATCH, FAF DU PLESSIS feels he was in good nick so he wanted to score big. Also admits that de Kock took pressure off him initially. He thinks there was something in the wicket for the bowlers and mentions that it was important to get yourselves in and then go for the big hits. He reveals that picking up singles is key to his batting style, also says he believes not accumulating dots. He admits that he didn't think about his double century at all. He also says that he should've put his wicket ball away, but is happy with his effort today.
AB DE VILLIERS is elated with the batting efforts. Credits Faf du Plessis for the way he constructed his innings. Adds that the wicket got slower in the later part of the game but praises Tharanga for the way he came out with the bat. Further says they were lucky as the bowlers didn't panic and picked up the wickets at the right time. Informs they wanted to delay Rabada's spell and is happy that it sort of worked for them. Ends by saying it is always tricky to change the combination but it has paid off and is proud of the performance put in by his team today.
UPUL THARANGA is happy with the way his team played today. Keeps on praising their batting efforts in this game but unfortunately is disappointed not to get over the line. Credits du Plesssis and de Villiers for the way they batted in the middle. Has no complaints regarding the wicket as he feels it was a good one for batting. Hopes that they can put up anther good performance and register a victory in the final game.
Having said that, it was a good performance from this Sri Lankan side to come this close in a tough chase. Talking about South Africa, their bowlers kept their nerves despite the visitors' brilliant start. It was Wayne Parnell who made the difference really. He removed Mendis and Tharanga in successive overs to break the back of the Sri Lankan chase. Pretorius and Rabada kept the visitors in check as well. The spin duo of Shamsi and Tahir proved to be expensive tonight. Stay tuned for the presentation...
South Africa were energized with the first breakthrough but the partnership of Tharanga and Kusal Mendis was flowering as they stitched together a 64-run stand off 67 balls. But as soon as Mendis fell, a flurry of wickets followed him and since then the visitors were never quite in the chase despite Tharanga's belligerent ton, albeit in a losing cause. Youngster Sandun Weerakkody did step up - scoring his maiden fifty - but it was a tad too late and he wasn't getting the expected support from the other end.
One will, rightfully, wonder whether it was Sanath Jayasuriya who gave the mid innings talk in the Sri Lankan dressing room. The way Upul Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella started, it definitely felt like that was the case. Both the opening batsmen started explosively scoring 100 off the first 10 overs. The game seemed to slip out of the hosts' control before Dwaine Pretorius, the 3rd ODI hero, put brakes on the onslaught forcing Dickwella to take the long walk back to the pavilion.
