Different game but the same old story. Another dismal performance from the visitors and a huge victory for the hosts. Sri Lanka once again continued to disappoint with the bat in the third successive ODI and paid the price as they lost the series. Now, it's the matter of pride and their young guns would look to grab this opportunity and make a big name for themselves in the upcoming ODIs. South Africa on the other hand will be relieved as they have clinched the series. de Villiers in the post-match presentation said they might give a chance to some new faces, let's see who they shall be. The fourth ODI takes place in Cape Town on 7th February. The action begins at 1330 local (1130 GMT). Do join us! Till then, take care! Cheers!
Man of the Match, Dwaine Pretorius says that he is glad that he could perform for his team. With all his team-mates, fellow bowlers backing him up, he was very happy out there. Adds that he is glad that he could contribute for his team's victory as they march on from strength-to-strength. Ends up by saying that he is delighted that the short ball ploy worked on which he has been working.
South Africa skipper, AB de Villiers is delighted with today's performance. Says they couldn't score more than 300 or entertain the crowd by hitting the sixes but they have done the job of winning the series. Emphasizes on the cause (breast cancer) for which they played the game. Further says everyone did the job but credit to the bowlers to bowl out Sri Lanka under 200 as anything above it could have been tough to chase down. Is happy with his batting performance today as he got some runs under the belt. On the bees, he says that was annoying and accepts one can't control it. Opines that things like this takes the focus off but his team didn't lose it and did well. Ends by saying, they wanted to seal the series today itself so that they can have a word with the selectors now and give a chance to a couple of new faces in upcoming dead rubbers.
Sri Lanka skipper, Upul Tharanga begins by saying they got a good start and feels they couldn't capitalize on it. Credits Dickwella for the way he played but unfortunately lacked support from the other end. Adds he has no complaints from the bowling department as his bowlers gave their 200 percent and is happy with their efforts. Ends by saying, now that they have lost the series, they would focus on batting which is their main concern for the remaining games.
It was a decent bowling performance from the Islanders but they didn't have runs on board to work with neither did their fielders back them up. Amla and de Villiers, both were dropped and much to their dismay some half chances either fell short or in the no man's land which sums up the misery of the Lankans.
This led way for their skipper to walk in. He walked in, looked a bit uncertain at the start but then combined well with Amla. He remained true to his Pink ODI record as he belted his 49th ODI fifty and took it upon him to get the job done. After Amla got run out, Duminy came in the middle and ensured that there was no further hiccups. He stitched an unbeaten 72-run stand with his skipper and took his team across the finish line.
South Africa maintain their Pink ODI record of winning and also clinch the series! Apart from this, they are on a 12-match winning streak in ODIs at home, this is some feat to conquer. A record that is tumbled after 1997! The hosts once again bowled out Sri Lanka for a paltry score of 163. Chasing such a small total, the Proteas were pushed back as debutant Kumara got rid of de Kock early. However, the two experienced men, Amla and du Plessis scored at a good rate before the latter departed rather cheaply to another debutant, Madushanka.
