So, that is it from this game. Pakistan took their revenge against Australia after getting a hammering in their previous clash. The team in Yellow, however, plays a dead rubber against the hosts in the 6th match of the tri-series. Do join us for that on Friday at 1000 local (0800 GMT). Meanwhile, you can catch some Test cricket action from the second day of the first Test between West Indies and Bangladesh that starts in a while from now. Till then, Ciao!
Sarfraz Ahmed, the winning skipper, thanks the Almighty before crediting Fakhar Zaman for his innings. Concedes that today's track was a difficult one. Adds that his batters did well to score as many as they did. Now goes on to laud Asif Ali, who displayed a wonderful finishing act with the bat. Now, he focuses on Shaheen Afridi and says that he was backed for a couple of series now. Adds further that the youngster did the job at hand very well, which pleases him.
Fakhar Zaman is chosen to be the Man of the Match. The southpaw says that it's pleasing to get a good start after not getting so in the previous games. Adds that they were expecting more short stuff after their previous clash against Australia and hence were better prepared. States that they had a target to get to about 160-170 and is happy to have got more.
Time for the presentation. Aaron Finch, the captain of the second-best side, is first up. He says that they didn't get going at all today. States that was a 170 wicket but their sloppy fielding ended up conceding much more. Reckons that such one-off losses are a necessity before the finals as one can't keep winning games always.
The Man of the Moment, Shaheen Afridi, has a quick chat with Rameez Raja. He says that the plan was always to perform well for Pakistan whenever he got the opportunity. States that the plan is always to bowl as per the situation. Talks about having small goals in a bid to achieve something great. Reckons that he is pleased to perform any role with the ball and has no such preferences.
All in all, it was a complete performance from the Men in Green. Even after losing the toss they didn't lose the plot. Fakhar Zaman and Asif Ali, along with contributions from other batters helped them to a good score on a greenish wicket. And after that, their bowlers made a mockery of the Aussie chase and stopped them at just 149.
All the other bowlers struck in as well with one wicket each and didn't let any partnership brew. D'Arcy Short yet again struggled to score quickly, thereby piling up the pressure. The top four wickets were removed in the space of just 38 runs, which stopped the Men in Yellow in their stride. After that, it was too much to ask from the lower-order. A lone hand of 37 from Alex Carey was the only surge. However, he alone couldn't have done much to change the final result.
The number one team in the shortest format has come to their regular ways. They have won this game comprehensively and beaten the in-form Kangaroos. It was a complete performance from the Pakistan. All the bowlers put their hands up and cleaned up the Australian batters without much trouble. The new left-arm fast bowling prodigy, Shaheen Afridi, was the star with the ball. He removed both the openers on the way to his career-best figures of 4-0-37-3.
