That's all from this fairly one-sided contest. The second ODI is on Tuesday, 15th February at 3.30 am IST (10 pm GMT, previous day). You can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Sophie Devine, the victorious skipper of New Zealand Women, says that it is good to see Suzie Bates scoring runs and applauds her by saying that it was a good knock. Adds that having wickets in hand helped them. Expresses her disappointment for wasting 11 deliveries. Credits her bowling unit by saying that they bowled well but they would have liked to finish well with the bat. Mentions that she wants people who can adapt quickly to the conditions.
Mithali Raj, the skipper of India Women, says that they had a preparation camp but they had an extended quarantine period in New Zealand which didn't help. Tells that they made a good comeback in the latter half of the innings with the ball and credits her bowlers for their efforts. Adds that as a batting unit they should be able to score 270 and says that they are missing the services of Smriti Mandhana. She opines that maintaining the run rate is very crucial in the middle overs and they must work on it going ahead.
Player of the Match, Suzie Bates says that it has been a pretty special day for her and they have played really well as a team and they want to keep the momentum going. Tells that she had a good domestic season and spending time in the middle helps and in this game she had no scoreboard pressure as well. Mentions that it is nice to have your family watching you.
Presentation time...
Earlier in the day, Suzie Bates was the fulcrum of the home team's batting as she stroked a fabulous century and was involved in three crucial partnerships. She was dropped on 13 and made sure to make that count. The Indian bowling was pretty much flat till the 40th over but then they bounced back and picked wickets in a heap to bundle out the hosts. That's one positive the visiting team will take from this match.
It was a daunting task for India Women to chase down a big target but apart from the moment when Mithali Raj and Yastika Bhatia were at the crease, they were never in the match. The pair raised an 88-run stand and pushed the hosts on the back foot. However, after their departure, there wasn't much fight shown by the other batters. The absence of Smriti Mandhana was felt and the visitors would be hoping to have her back for the coming games. The bowling from New Zealand Women was mostly accurate and Sophie Devine was very proactive with her bowling changes. Jess Kerr finished with a 4-wicket haul and impressed the most.
Easy victory for New Zealand Women in the end! A pretty much clinical performance from them to take the lead in this series. They had a very competitive total on the board and their bowlers made sure to stick to the plans and delivered. India Women were below-par in all the departments of the game and have a lot of work to do.
