So, that's it from us for this game. Join us for the next game between the two sides on 28th January in Napier. Until then, it's good bye from us.
MAN OF THE MATCH - HENRY NICHOLLS
Pakistan will be bitterly disappointed at having wasted a golden opportunity with the ball. The dropped catch of Nicholls early in his innings proved to vital as well. Having said that, they had their chances in the chase too but faltered with some poor shot-selection. New Zealand's depth in batting and bowling eventually got them over the line.
New Zealand were a bowler short due to McClenaghan's injury but it didn't affect them much. The part timers Elliott and Williamson shared 4 between them as Pakistan simply gifted wickets through rash strokes. Boult ran through the middle and lower order to end with a 4-fer. Earlier in the day, New Zealand showed great spunk to recover from 99-6 to a formidable 280-8. Nicholls played beautifully to anchor the innings with support from Santner before Henry and McClenaghan blazed away to get the total to the 280-run mark.
A comprehensive win for New Zealand as they go 1-0 up in the 3-match ODI series. Azam was the only player to show fight along with Hafeez but the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals which hampered their cause. Sarfraz tried to up the ante but by then, it had got too late.Pakistan will rue the lack of partnerships barring the Azam-Hafeez stand.
