That's it from this clash! We have one more day when warm-up games will be played and it will be on 20th October. At 2 pm local (10 am GMT), India will lock horns against Australia and England will face New Zealand. Later at 6 pm local (2 pm GMT), Afghanistan will face West Indies and Pakistan will meet South Africa. Do join us then. Cheers!
New Zealand had a fairly decent game with the ball. They got the early wicket and did not let any of the batters take the game away from them. When a partnership was brewing in the middle overs, Mitchell Santner broke it and got them back in the game. He was the pick of the bowlers as he got 3 wickets from his spell. Trent Boult got 2 wickets but did not complete his spell. Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson got 1 wicket each, but the latter could not execute his plans in the final over and that is when they lost the game. But still, New Zealand would be fairly satisfied with their show and would look to improve further.
Australia did not have the best of starts as they lost David Warner on the first ball. But, Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Finch got some runs at the top of the order to provide them with a good platform. Both the batters fell after getting starts and Steven Smith was joined by Marcus Stoinis in the middle. They kept the scoreboard ticking and got boundaries to make sure that the required rate was under control. But their departure in successive overs was a big blow to the Aussies. Fortunately for them, Ashton Agar and Mitchell Starc got boundaries at the right time to keep them in the hunt. Agar fell in the last over, but Josh Inglis came in and finished things off.
Victory for Australia! Who would have thought they would get over the line after the wicket of Marcus Stoinis? But, they have held their nerves and have won this thriller. Credit to New Zealand too, they pulled things nicely in the middle overs but unfortunately, could not finish things off.
