So, that's all from this game. Sydney Sixers enter the final of BBL 09 in a dominating fashion. Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, are not out of it yet as they will face the winner of Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder. The match between the Strikers and Thunder will be played on Saturday, 1st February at 1910 Local (0840 GMT). Until then, cheers.
Earlier, in the day, Melbourne Stars restricted the Sixers to a below-par score. Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets. From the Sixers, apart from Josh Philippe, no one got going and they struggled and eventually reached 142. The Stars would have fancied themselves to chase this down but they faltered and ended up losing the game by 43 runs.
The Stars, on the other hand, disappointed with the bat. They had some destructive players in their line-up but they succumbed under pressure and were inflicted another loss in the final stages of the BBL. None of the batsmen batted well and showed some fight. They collapsed and there was not a single partnership of over fifty which is required in a tense run chase like this. They needed a special innings from the Big Show and the Hulk but that was not to be. In the end, it was a pretty dismal performance from the Stars with the bat.
At the end of the first innings, who would have thought that the Sixers will end up winning by 43 runs? Their bowling was wonderful. They did not give any easy runs to the Stars and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. It all started with Stoinis throwing his wicket away and then Abbott getting a wicket of a pretty bad delivery. But the real damage was done by Steve O'Keefe as he was economical and picked up two important wickets. Sean Abbott made a welcome return as he was clinical with the ball. He ended up with three wickets. Everybody who bowled ended up taking a wicket. Overall, it was a super performance from the bowlers.
Steve O'Keefe , the Man of the Match, says that the captain was not sure whether to bowl or bat first and is happy with how things panned out. Is pleased with the Maxwell wicket and praises Vince for the catch. Adds that they bowled and fielded well.Goes on to say that they trained well for this match and the guys adapted well. Is excited to play the final at his home ground.
