Match 2 of the positional playoffs at the 2025 ICC Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup brings together the fourth-placed teams from Groups A and D at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval. Malaysia Women Under-19, from Group A, face off against Nepal Women Under-19 from Group D as both teams look to finish their maiden Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup campaigns on a positive note. There are plenty of similarities between the two teams, who have both had moments of brilliance with the ball across their three group-stage games. However, batting has been a constant challenge for both, although their fielding has been one of the highlights to go with their bowling. Nepal, in their previous game against Australia, managed to put the opposition under early pressure, supported by excellent fielding. Skipper Puja Mahato has led from the front in the pace department, while Seemana KC has impressed with her off-spin, providing crucial breakthroughs when needed. Nepal’s batting showed some improvement in the game against a formidable Aussie attack, as they managed to bat out the full 20 overs. Puja Mahato has fought a lone fight with the bat, but for Nepal to post or chase a competitive total, she will need more support from the rest of the lineup. As for Malaysia, they faced the West Indies in their last group stage match, which was a must-win for them to progress to the Super Six stage. They showcased commendable resilience with the ball in the first 10 overs but faltered in the next 10, something they will want to tighten up and keep the pressure on for longer periods. With the bat, Malaysia showed improvement with every game in the group stage. They posted their highest total of the tournament in the last outing against the West Indies, and this boost in confidence will certainly be valuable as they look to build on that momentum. Husna and captain Nur Dania Syuhada showed promise during their brief stays, and the duo will be key to Malaysia's batting fortunes as they aim to finish their campaign on a high. With both sides having faced challenges in the group stage, they will be determined to give their best performance and sign off with a much-needed victory. Who will come out on top? We shall find out.
