That concludes the proceedings for Wednesday. We witnessed some sizzling cricket and are expecting more of the same on the 2nd of September 2021. Two games coming our way as usual - Saint Lucia Kings vs Guyana Amazon Warriors at 10 am local (2 pm GMT) followed by the clash between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Royals at 7 pm local (11 pm GMT). Do join us for all the action. Cheers!
Dwayne Bravo, the victorious captain of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, says that he is very proud of his boys. Mentions that it is good for the West Indian cricket that guys like Fabian Allen and Evin Lewis are performing well. Tells us that they always wanted to chase but also admits that a 160-plus chase could have been tricky. Adds that he is very happy as it was a complete team performance and Paul van Meekeren did a good job. Adds that Evin Lewis got them off to a flying start. Praises Sherfane Rutherford and Fabian Allen for their knocks. Goes on to say that he is happy to see the fans back and that means a lot to them.
Rovman Powell, the captain of Jamaica Tallawahs, says that they were 20 runs short but mentions that the credit has to be given to the Patriots who bowled really well at the death. Feels that they could have done better with the ball as well. Adds that Joshua James will get his opportunity with the ball in future and he didn't introduce him as Evin Lewis was on the attack.
Sherfane Rutherford bags yet another Man of the Match award. Starts by saying that coming into this tournament, he wanted to take more responsibility and was given a chance to bat in the top order. Admits that there were a lot of weaknesses in his batting and he has tried his best to improve his game. He calls Dwayne Bravo special and tells us that his skipper has given him the freedom to bat with a clear mindset
Presentation time...
Jamaica Tallawahs would be disappointed with their batting efforts, especially in the death overs. Their batters got starts but no one batted deep to maximize the end overs. Credit to the bowling of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to restrict the powerful batting line-up of Jamaica Tallawahs. Skipper Dwayne Bravo, who didn't have a good season with the ball, finally turned up and showed his skills to pick three wickets. He should be commended for his efforts with the ball and also for leading the Patriots so well.
It could have been a tricky chase but the openers of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots laid a strong foundation. Jamaica Tallawahs made a comeback in the second half of the Powerplay but the presence of Evin Lewis helped the Patriots to keep the scoring rate close to the required rate. Playing his first game, Ravi Bopara formed a couple of crucial stands in the middle overs. After that, it was business as usual for Sherfane Rutherford who notched up yet another fifty in this season and also took the record for hitting the most sixes in this edition along with topping the batting charts. 50 runs were needed off the last 5 overs but the stand between Rutherford and Fabian Allen demolished the target with 14 balls to spare. It was a brutal display of batting by Fabian again, a phenomenal effort.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have pulled off a clinical chase and their winning juggernaut continues to roll. Four in four and this is their best start ever in the history of the Caribbean Premier League. Smiles in their camp, the Patriots have once again done the job.
