Right then! That is all we have from this game! The action in the PSL continues with a double-header on Fab-Friday, the 18th of February. Multan Sultans take on Quetta Gladiators in the first match of the day. That match begins at 3 pm IST (9.30 am GMT). The build-up though will begin much sooner. Do join us then. Goodbye and take care!
Wahab Riaz, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi says, as he said at the toss that the wicket is very good to bat and they made full use of it. He mentions that Haris has been the difference for them as he is giving momentum to the team. He adds that he always trusted his ability to bowl well at the death as he has done well in the past. He hopes to continue in the same vein going forward.
Islamabad United skipper, Asif Ali says that the pitch was really good and they did well to restrict them for a few runs less. He mentions that the opposition bowlers bowled well at the death and they lost a lot of wickets later on. He adds that they batted well but they just couldn't cross the line in the end.
Mohammad Haris is the Player of the Match! He says that he tries to put pressure on the opposition in the Points table. He adds that he premediates a bit but most of the time he reads the bowler’s mind. He mentions that hard work is the key to his success.
... The Presentation Ceremony ...
Ben Cutting is up for a quick chat. Ben says that there were nerves while bowling after a long time but says that luckily it went well. He applauds Wahab Riaz for his brilliant 19th over. He says that the catch of Azam Khan was an important one and it was a bit too high. He mentions that this is an important win for them and they have a couple of days off now before going again.
Peshawar Zalmi had the runs on the board and all they need were a couple of wickets up top. This wasn't the case though as Rahmanullah Gurbaz took their spinners for a ride around the park. Salman Irshad though got his side back into the match by dismissing Gurbaz and slowly but surely Peshawar looked to be back on top. They kept on picking wickets at regular intervals after a brief stand between Khan and Dawson which proved to be vital in the end. Khan was forced into playing big shots as the Peshawar pacers kept on dismissing his partners and in the end, the skipper dismissed the big man in the penultimate over and made things safe for his side. Cutting finished things off with the ball clinically but Salman Irshad and Hussain Talat were the ones who set up the victory.
Islamabad needed a really strong start and Rahmanullah Gurbaz got them off to a real flier. The 50 came up in just 3 overs and they were set up nicely for the chase. A couple of wickets fell in quick succession as Gurbaz perished for 46. After that, the mantle was taken on by one individual and one individual only, Azam Khan. He looked to play proper cricketing shots and got full purchase for his efforts. No one really stuck with him as only the skipper, Asif Ali managed to cross the 10-run mark. Azam Khan almost got his side over the line on his own but it wasn't meant to be as he fell for a brilliant knock of 85 runs at the death. Islamabad United just were not clinical enough in the end and ended up on the losing side.
What a game of cricket this has been! Over 400 runs scored and 10 runs the difference between the two sides in the end as Peshawar Zalmi edge out this contest. So close yet so far for Islamabad United and they will be heartbroken to have lost the match in the end. Peshawar Zalmi though have snatched the win right off their opponent's hands at the death and will be mightily pleased with that effort.
