That is all from this game. From New Chandigarh, we move to Delhi for the series decider. Join us on the 20th of this month at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT) and earlier for the build-up. Till then, cheers.
Smriti Mandhana is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her fantastic ton. She says that the last two hundred she got against Australia were in the losing cause, so she is happy to be on the winning side here. Adds that the plan was to use the field restrictions, and whatever was in her area, she went after them. Mentions that against Australia, you have to score those 20-30 runs extra to give your bowlers a chance. Says that the wicket was very flat so they were aggressive, but she can always adapt according to the conditions and opposition. Tells that she and Pratika Rawal complement each other well and do not complicate things which helps them. Ends by saying that Rawal is pretty calm and composed and they plan to keep things simple and continue to contribute to the team.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of India says they talked about playing good cricket and they have done exactly that. Reckons they stuck to their plans and the results followed. Mentions they kept things simple and clear. Adds Smriti Mandhana got the runs for the team while others struggled to contribute, but feels 300 was a good score on this pitch. Tells they want to give chances to everyone in this series, and today everyone took the responsibility and helped the team.
Alyssa Healy, the skipper of Australia Women says that she wouldn't have done anything different at the toss and it is a good preparation for the World Cup where they won't have the choice always. Adds that India played well in all facets of the game, and probably outplayed them a bit as well. Mentions that the bowlers did well to keep India under 300, but admits they could have done better with the bat. Ends by saying that India bowled well with the new ball, and they will take the learnings from this game and try to play better in the next one.
...Presentation...
Arundhati Reddy is up for a quick chat. She says that it feels great. Adds that they made some good plans for this game, the batters did well to get to 290 and the bowlers were brilliant. Mentions that they had a chat about the fielding, and they know they are a good fielding side and they showed that in this game. Says that getting a game here, she wanted to put her all and she is happy to contribute with three crucial catches.
Earlier, on a tough surface and under hot conditions. India were asked to bat first! Smriti Mandhana once again lit up with her magnificent century. She was at her best once again but India lost six wickets in the last 10 overs, ending with a par score. Also, after 7 tries, India have finally beaten Australia, with their last win coming in 2021. Australia’s streak of 13 straight ODI wins has also come to an end.
Australia will be disappointed with today's batting performance. 300 was a par score on this pitch and they managed to bundle out India for 292 and with a lot of momentum on their side. Renuka Singh Thakur came back into the XI and troubled their openers. Kranti Gaud was solid too with the new ball. Australia Women managed to stitch a couple of partnerships and looked in a good position while Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland were batting but the latter's wicket turned the tides towards India's side and despite a strong batting unit, Australia Women succumbed under pressure.
Just the performance India were looking for. A much better performance from them as compared to the first game and a lot energetic as well. Kaur's team responded with a solid performance on the field. Despite dropping a lot of catches as they did in the first game, India held it tight by bowling a lot of dot balls by attacking the stumps and with regular wickets.
A must win game for India and they have put in a dominating performance against a strong Australian side who will be gutted as this was a par score on this pitch but they fumbled to chase it as compared to in the first game where a couple of partnerships sealed the game.
