The Indian skipper, MS DHONI smiles and nods when asked the happy days are here again. He says it was a good game. Adds that as they were bowling first, it was important to restrict Sri Lanka to a low score. Also adds that Ashwin was the pick of the lot but the others supported him well. Continues to say that in this format you want to go hard and sometimes you can't get the desired total on the board. (On this team) He says it is a mix of experience and youth. Emphasizes that IPL is key and helps a lot as everybody plays and performs under pressure. Also says that they can bat till number 8 and even part-timers are contributing well, making his job easier. (On how he is feeling as a skipper and player) He says he is feeling quite good. Also says that here the conditions are good and the spinners do well. Further adds that even if pacers have an off day, there are plenty of options to cover. The Sri Lankan skipper, DINESH CHANDIMAL says it was difficult to bat today in such conditions. Adds that they kept losing wickets and that didn't help. Ends by saying they need to regroup now and better themselves.
So India have clinched this series in the most comfortable manner today. Winning the series in the way they have, it will do a world of good for their confidence going into the Asia Cup and World T20.
It is the Indian bowling that deserve all the credit, though. In particular, their spin bowling. From the first over itself, they started picking up wickets and ran through the Sri Lankan batting line-up. None of the visitors' batsmen put up any kind of fight at any stage. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers, who finished with a career best figures of 4/8.
So India have comfortably won this match. And with that, take the series 2-1. It wasn't much of a task for them as they just had to chase down a target of 83 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane saw the match off comfortably and it was all wrapped up just under 14 overs. They did not have to take any chances and played a risk-free innings. This is also India's biggest win in terms of wickets and balls remaining.
