Right then! That's all from this game! England Women take the series with one game to spare while India Women have pride to play for before the T20I series begins. The third ODI will begin on Saturday, 3rd July at 1100 local (1000 GMT). Do join us then for that. Cheers and take care.
Kate Cross, the PLAYER OF THE MATCH, says that it was a good day for her and to do it in front of a crowd is pleasing. Goes onto say that she has got recognition for being boring and she tried to create pressure on the batters. Adds they always want to play cricket. Goes onto say that she has put in a lot of work and she wants to show more consistency and wants to win games for her team. Says that the World Cup in 2022 is always on the back of the mind and there is a lot of cricket to play before the tournament.
Heather Knight, the England skipper, says that they are pleased with the series win. Tells that it was a good game of cricket. Goes onto say that it was a really good innings from Dunkley. Tells that Cross was brilliant and she is very happy for her and she learnt a few new tricks in this game. States that Dunkley's knock was important and to see Dunkley play like that was pleasing. Adds that Dunkley is a mature character and she has made the number. 6 position her own. Adds that they have a lot of cricket coming up in the next few months.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian skipper, says that it was not a winning total and they needed 250 on the board. Tells that they fought really well and the bowlers tried really hard. Goes onto say that Dunkley and Brunt took the game away from them. States that they want to go with their best XI and they want to give their best in every game.
India Women gave a very tough fight. At one stage, they were on top as they had England on the mat but they could not keep up the pressure and they faltered. Jhulan Goswami bowled a terrific spell while Shikha Pandey was good as well in her outing while the spinners gave it their all but in vain. Their fielding was good apart from a misfield here and there. In the end, they could not apply too much pressure on Brunt and Dunkley and they were handed a series defeat. Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony!
England did not start off too well as they lost their player-in-form, Tammy Beaumont early. Heather Knight could not do much while Lauren Winfield got dismissed after a start. Natalie Sciver looked good but she fell and England were in deep trouble. Sophia Dunkley though had other plans as she first joined hands with Amy Jones and then Katherine Brunt, the latter turned into a match-winning partnership, to take England home. Dunkley showed tremendous nerves and England have unearthed a star in Dunkley.
End of a very good match! India Women tried hard but Sophia Dunkley and Katherine Brunt managed to held their nerves and stay till the end to take the series with one game to spare. They will be pleased that they have won the series while India would be disappointed. They did show some fight but it was not to be for them.
