So that's the end of our coverage of this exciting contest between these two teams. The hosts will be high on confidence going into the last two games. Tomorrow there is more Asia Cup action for you as Pakistan take on UAE at the Shere Bangla Stadium at 1900 IST. Do join us for it. Till then, adios and take care!
The Bangladeshi skipper, MASHRAFE MORTAZA says it is a good win for them going forward. Continues saying that the wicket was good to bat on and they did their best. Adds the wicket was on the slow side a bit and Shakib and Mahmudullah did well, but Sabbir was exceptional. Ends saying that the boys in his side make things easier for him.
Man of the Match, SABBIR RAHMAN thanks the Almighty and says he wanted to stay positive as he was batting throughout. Continues saying that he just wanted to play his shots and get going. Adds that he just wanted to stick to his strengths and help the team do well.
The Sri Lankan skipper, ANGELO MATHEWS says they made a real game out of it. Adds they could have batted more sensibly as then they could have taken the game. Continues saying that after the run rate started creeping up, the hosts did well to get on top and take advantage. Further says they have selected the same squad for the World T20 and as the squad is young, it is a learning curve for them. Also agrees that he and the other senior players need to step up and hopes they can pull it back in the next couple of games.
The Lankans made similar mistakes as they did against UAE. They played a lot of senseless shots at crucial times of the game and that dearly cost them. Then the run rate started creeping up on them and it was too hard and too tall a mountain for them to climb. Dinesh Chandimal had provided a solid foundation for his team to build on but none were able to do so. Stay tuned as the presentation is shortly coming up...
Earlier in the evening it was Sabbir Rahman who was the star of the show. His blitzkrieg of 80 off 54 balls set the tone of the entire innings. It was Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah in the latter stages of the game who played vital knocks. It helped their team post a decent total on the board. The Lankans were good with the ball and restricted the hosts, with Chameera being the pick of the bowlers getting 3 wickets.
It was the young sensation Mustafizur Rahman who bowled an amazing spell to contain them and pick a wicket up as well. Despite being a little expensive, Al-Amin Hossain was once again superb in the death. Cramping the batsmen for room and taking them out, he picked up 3 wickets and was superb with Mustafizur in those final overs.
What a brilliant victory here for the hosts as they registered their first ever T20I victory against Sri Lanka. Their bowlers were fantastic tonight and put in a great display in the field as well. After going for some runs in the initial stages of the game, they did extremely well to come back into the match. Shakib Al Hasan was brilliant today, both with the bat and the ball. He picked up 2 wickets for 21 runs in his spell.
