Tamim Iqbal then goes up to collect the series win trophy and joins his teammates for the celebration as well. That is it then from this game and from the ODI series as well between Bangladesh and Ireland with the hosts winning the three-game series 2-0. The action now moves to the three-game T20I series and the first game will be played on Monday, the 27th of March at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. That game will begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT) but you can join us a lot earlier for the build-up. Cheers!
Tamim Iqbal says that the way they played the whole series was unbelievable and stringing two solid batting performance back-to-back and now in this game, the pacers did a brilliant job as well. Adds that players like Mehidy Hasan when he starts performing with the bat, it helps a lot and that is the way forward as their bowling unit is pretty settled. Mentions that winning by 10 wickets is special and the way they chased down the runs shows authority and applauds Litton Das for his brilliant innings as well. Ends by saying that a lot of credit goes to the coach who encourages them to play on such sporting wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES. He says that they had another series win and all the boys chipped in really well. On his batting in this series, he says that the conditions were good for batting and the top order had set it up nicely for him to go big. Mentions that he is happy to chip in with both the bat and with the gloves as well.
Hasan Mahmud is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant bowling display. Starts by saying that he is very grateful and is very excited for his first-ever five-wicket haul. Adds that the wicket and the weather both were good for pace bowling and he enjoyed it out there. On Alan Donald, he says that he has worked really hard with the bowlers and it can be seen.
Andy Balbirnie, the captain of Ireland says that they are very disappointed an the last few days reflect how poor they have been but he can't fault the efforts of the guys. Mentions that naturally you expect the spinners to play a big part here but the opposition pacers have been brilliant and they didn't adapt well. Adds that they had a pretty good T20 World Cup in Australia and they know they can do well in that format and are looking forward to rising up to the challenge.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Andy Balbirnie won the toss and opted to bat first in conditions that definitely had something in it for the fast bowlers. This decision seemed to be influenced by the fact that they conceded in excess of 300 twice in the games before but it turned out to be a disastrous one. Hasan Mahmud was simply brilliant at the start, getting the ball to move in the air and off the deck as well and he ripped through the top order of Ireland. Taskin Ahmed too supported him well, striking from the other end. After the first 10 overs, Curtis Campher and Lorcan Tucker put up a decent partnership of 42 runs before the latter was dismissed by Ebadot Hossain. This led to another collapse as Hasan Mahmud came back to end with a five-wicket haul and Ireland somehow managed to cross the 100-run mark. Coming to the chase, it only went one way as the openers of Bangladesh didn't waste much timed and sealed a first-ever 10-wicket victory for them in ODIs.
There is nothing much to talk about the Irish bowling and truth be told, they never had a chance of defending this meager total. However, both Mark Adair and Graham Hume were guilty of bowling some really loose deliveries at the start of the chase. Young spinner Matthew Humphreys then bowled a really tidy first over only to concede five wides on the last ball and extra delivery was hit away for a maximum as well. Curtis Campher did bowl in good channels but he too was put away for boundaries. All in all, a day to forget for the Irish side and they will look to bounce back after this.
With just 102 runs to win, Bangladesh also seemed in the driving seat but the way in which the openers attacked was something special. The pair hammered the Irish pacers to all parts of the ground early in the first Powerplay and took full advantage of the fielding restrictions. Tamim Iqbal was the aggressor at first but then Litton Das matched him shot for shot, even going one better and notching up a half-ton and remaining unbeaten on 50 off just 38 balls. Tamim Iqbal too remained unbeaten on a-run-a-ball 41 and hit the winning runs for his side.
What a flex this has been from Bangladesh and not just in this game but throughout this ODI series. In the first game, they won by their biggest margin of runs ever and now they have achieved a victory by 10 wickets for the first time as well in ODIs. Ireland on the other hand have simply been cast aside here and they will now look to forget this series before the start of the T20Is.
