And that's a wrap! A magnificent turnaround from the Australia Women! The action continues in ICC Women's World Cup 2025 as we have a game lined up on Thursday, 9th of October at 9.30 am GMT between India Women and South Africa Women. Be sure to join us for all the early build-up and toss action. Until the players take the field again, goodbye from all of us, and cheers!
Alyssa Healy, skipper of Australia Women says that she is happy to get the two points. Also, says that after the fall of wickets, she set the mentality to defend the score, whether it's 150 or 160, but she is grateful that Beth Mooney scored a magnificent century. Continues that they expected the wicket to be dry, but she is a bit disappointed that the batters failed to adapt. She also adds that next they will be on a new destination to play India Women and they need to switch back on and shape themselves well. Ends up saying that it's good that everybody is contributing to the team, but she is a bit concerned that they are creating partnerships but it lower down the order.
Fatima Sana, the skipper of Pakistan Women, says that they were good for the first 20 overs but failed to get the wicket of Beth Mooney later on. Adds that they needed to keep the same energy till the end but they failed on that. She says that they decided to bowl and their spinners did well, so it was a good decision. She ends by saying that their bowlers were good, but they need to work on their batting and they need long partnerships.
Beth Mooney wins the Player of the Match for her knock of 109 runs. She says that she would rate the win pretty high. Continues that they were in a tough situation when she was batting toward the end of the first inning. She continues that the bowlers of the opposition bowled really well to swing the ball. She also appreciates the way Alana King supported her in her inning. Ends up saying that she ducked her head into ice water, changed her clothes and sat in the air-conditioner till the second inning started.
Presentations coming up...
Earlier in the game, Australia Women stumbled to 76/7 but recovered thanks to a 106-run partnership between Beth Mooney and Alana King. Mooney scored a fighting century, her first in a World Cup match, while King hit her maiden fifty. Pakistan bowlers initially did well, reducing Australia to 76/7. Nashra Sandhu took 3/37, and Fatima Sana, Rameen Shamim, Diana Baig, and Sadia Iqbal also chipped in with wickets. However, Mooney and King's partnership took Australia to a competitive 221/9.
Credit must be given to the Australian Women bowlers for a clinical performance. Against expectations on a supposedly spin-friendly surface, their seam attack was absolutely lethal. Pacers Kim Garth, Megan Schutt, and Annabel Sutherland shared seven wickets between them, ripping through the Pakistan line-up. They never allowed the batters to settle, maintaining control from the very first ball.
The middle order failed to capitalise or build partnerships, surrendering wickets too easily. Later on, there was a period of stubborn resistance from Rameen Shamim and Nashra Sandhu, but it was only a lot of dot balls. They finally fell as Pakistan were bowled out for 114 runs, and they fell short by a considerable margin of 107 runs, highlighting the clear gap between the two sides.
That's a wrap on a tough outing for Pakistan Women! Chasing 222 was always going to be a massive ask against a quality Australia side, especially on a sluggish pitch. The struggle with the bat that has plagued them in recent games continued, as they lost both openers early, setting a negative tone. Sidra Amin showed grit, providing a brief anchor to their innings. Her dismissal in the 22nd over effectively signalled the end of any real contest.
