That completes South Africa's tour of Australia 2016. A terrific Test series that saw some high quality cricket being played. The visitors have sealed a series Down Under third time in a row now. Hope you all enjoyed our coverage of the entire series. For the time being, hop on to the India-England match tab for cricketing action. Goodbye!
FAF DU PLESSIS accepts being disappointment at the loss but insists that it's been a series of pride for his South African team. Feels that his boys have stepped up big time to outplay a quality side like Australia in their den. Adds that it's easy being a captain with such a quality bowling attack. Underlines the great atmosphere and attitude of his side which he feels is a big positive. Ends by saying that they will take a short break before getting back to a jam-packed schedule.
STEVEN SMITH says that he is pleased and proud of the way his team has stepped up in the game. Lauds the bowlers and Khawaja for setting it up nicely. Says that his team was outplayed in the first two matches and says that South Africa deserved to win the series. Stresses at the character shown by his team to bounce back in this game. Feels that the debutants are doing okay.
VERNON PHILANDER (PLAYER OF THE SERIES) says he is surprised at getting the award as there were many good performances especially from his teammates. Admits that missing a legend like Steyn was a big factor but lauds his mates for taking the extra responsibility. Says that they enjoyed the conditions in the series.
USMAN KHAWAJA (PLAYER OF THE MATCH) says that it was a tough series with good balance between bat and ball. Rues not being able to win one of the first two Tests. Expresses happiness at having contributed a match-winning century. Praises South Africa for putting up a great performance in the series and admits that his opponents were worthy winners in the end.
With a paltry target of 127 to win, Australia were never going to be tested. Warner got them off to a racy start before being run out amidst confusion. Smith too played a solid knock but he departed just at the doorstep of the victory. Debutant opener Renshaw dug in long and stayed unbeaten with the other debutant Handscomb to see the team through. A consolation win for the hosts but it's been a vital one considering the new look outfit. Despite the defeat, a largely satisfying series for the Proteas as they clinched it 2-1.
Khawaja rose to the occasion with a superlative ton with contributions from Smith, Handscomb and then down the order from Starc. The runs added by the lower order helped Australia take a vital 124-run lead. With a challenging deficit, South Africa struggled with Cook being the lone warrior with a defiant ton. Lyon led the charge along with Starc in the second innings and it was a terrific bowling performance from the hosts.
An emphatic win for Australia in the end. Despite losing the toss, they were able to restrict South Africa on day one. The Proteas rode on a du Plessis ton to get to 259/9 before the SA skipper made a sporting declaration. Hazlewood was the pick of the Aussie bowlers while the rest were decent. With a fragile and inexperienced lower middle order, Australia needed a senior man to step in and it happened that way.

OUT! Gone! Ripper of a ball and the Australian captain has to go. Back of a length around off, moves away sharply as Smith looks to play across the line. The feather flies through to de Kock who takes it with ease. So, Smith has to go with his side at the doorstep of a win.
