Melbourne Renegades beat Sydney Thunder by 12 runs (D/L method)

So, that will be it from this game. SAM HARPER HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. The Renegades bag their first points of the season after a long, long time. That will be it from this game but join us on the other side as the Perth Scorchers take on the table-toppers Melbourne Stars. Cheers and take care!
Earlier in the game, Shaun Marsh and Sam Harper helped the Renegades reach a score on 172 with their skipper Daniel Christian providing the flourish in the end. Chris Morris was taken to the cleaners as he was hit for 40 runs in his 3 overs while Liam Bowe bowled well to take 2 wickets while conceding just 23 runs in his 4 overs.
All the bowlers were good for the Renegades except for Boyce. Nabi did go for 26 runs in his 3rd over but before that he was exceptional as well. However, the star was the skipper, Daniel Christian as he took 3 wickets and conceded just 14 runs off his 2 overs.
The innings did not start well for Thunder as they lost the wicket of Khawaja in the very first over. Ferguson was unlucky as he was dismissed in the most bizarre fashion. Daniel Sams also did not last long and then rain interrupted the game to cut it down to 14-overs-per-side. The Thunder needed 104 in 49 balls with Hales and Ross at the crease. Hales tried to provide the momentum but it never came and Morris followed soon. However, Ross smashed Nabi for 26 runs in an over and that gave Thunder a chance but Christian came on to bowl the penultimate over and delivered the final blow which bagged the points for the Renegades.
The Renegades have finally, finally won their first BBL match of the season and they have their skipper to thank for it as Daniel Christian has played a big part in it. The Sydney Thunder gave a tough fight but came up short in the end.

Update 2045 Local 0945 GMT - The two umpires are down for an interview and giving updates about the weather forecast. They say that everytime it looks like the rain might have backed off it comes back again just when they are about to start the game as there are cloud formations coming towards the ground and that is frustrating for everyone including the players and the fans.
Update 2030 Local (0930 GMT) - So, the umpires are back out in the middle and they are without their umbrellas which is a good sign. The covers had come off but now, the groundsmen are putting them back on as the drizzles have become heavier.
Oh no! Or maybe, oh yes! It has started to rain and the players are walking off. It is bad news for cricket but everyone knows what is going on in Australia and these rains will help that cause. But on a cricketing front let's hope that it is just a passing shower.

OUT! LBW! The arm ball does the trick for Nabi and Thunder in troubled waters here. It is flatter and on middle and leg, Sams looks to play the sweep but misses and gets hit on the front pad. Nabi and his teammates go up in appeal. It looks like the umpire won't raise his finger but an extended appeal from Nabi sees the umpire finally raise his finger. Sams' poor run with the bat continues and the side from Melbourne are all over the side from Sydney. Andrew Fekete To Usman Khawaja OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! That's a stunner by Sam Harper and Khawaja walks back in the first over itself. Amazing that this even went to the third umpire but the right decision has been made. A full ball on off, it moved away and Khawaja looked to drive at it. The ball goes off the outside edge low to the left of Harper who takes a one-handed blinder diving low in that direction. The umpire thinks that Khawaja played the ball on the full and that it bounced after it hit Khawaja's bat. He consults with the leg umpire and after long discussions goes upstairs with the soft signal being not out. Replays roll in to show that the ball pitched before hitting Khawaja's blade and Harper took the catch cleanly. Early strike for the Renegades.
The umpires have gone upstairs for a caught behind. The soft signal is NOT OUT. The Melbourne Renegades players are celebrating as they think they have their man. Khawaja though is not going anywhere. Let's see what the replays have to say.
