Jason Holder, the Tridents' skipper, says that credit must be given to Pollard as he took the game away from them. States that on this surface, it is important to keep wickets in hand so that they can go big in the end. Says that they did well to reach 148. Adds that their plans to Pollard did not work as he hit all the balls for sixes.
Kieron Pollard, the MAN OF THE MATCH AND THE KNIGHT RIDERS' SKIPPER, says that he tried to go all out and it was a matter of keeping the strike at the right times and he targeted the Walsh over. States that they were 4 down before the 10th over and there was a need of consolidating. Adds that they had a plan and it worked. Goes onto say, this innings was one of his best and is pleased to have done the job for his side.
Earlier in the day, Pollard won the toss and the Knight Riders decided to field first. Shai Hope fell first but Charles and Mayers kept the scoreboard ticking for the good, until a cheap shot by Charles got him sent back to the pavilion for 47 runs, just missing out on his half-century. Ashley Nurse and Rashid Khan played small cameos helping the Tridents put up a total of 148 on this pitch. For the Tridents, with the ball, Sikander Raza, Jayden Seales and Akeal Hosein each grabbed two wickets each. The Tridents must be kicking themselves as they had this game in their own pocket for most of the game but they couldn't turn all that pressure into a victory.
The Knight Riders were not the best with the bat as they kept losing quick wickets in succession. They were bleeding at 36-4 at the end of the 8th over and their batting and shot selection by the batters was also very questionable. Only Lendl Simmons apart from Pollard was impactful with the bat as he scored a well made 32 runs, also partnering Pollard towards the end. The star of the show was the skipper of the Knight Riders, Kieron Pollard who smashed a very vital 72 runs off a mere 28 balls, hitting 2 fours and 9 sixes! Yes, you heard that right folks, NINE SIXES! Khary Pierre scored a vital 10 runs off two balls right in the last over to help the Knight Riders win by two wickets and keep their unbeaten run going.
What a match this has been in the CPL. It looked like Jason Holder and Co. were going to ease their way to victory before Pollard came on and put out a show, scoring 72 off 28 deliveries and it looked like he would cruise them through to victory, before he got run-out just in the last over and then it seemed like the Tridents would see out the match now but Khary Pierre in the last over smashed a six to win the game for the Knight Riders. It was a proper pendulum of sorts during the last over here.
