126/8 (20.0/20)
127/2 (15.5/20)
Sydney Sixers beat Brisbane Heat by 8 wickets
The final few double-headers of the season! Yipppeeeee! Friday sees match numbers 50 and 51, with the Hobart Hurricanes hosting the Sydney Thunder at the Bellerive Oval at 6.10 pm local (0710 GMT). That will be followed by the Perth Scorchers-Adelaide Strikers clash at the Optus Stadium, at the same time, 6.10 pm local but at a different GMT time(1010 GMT)! Ahhh... Australia is a vast country. Do join us for all the action on 24th January 2020. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
That ends match number 49. 7 more to go to end the league phase. The Sixers take back the second spot for now, but if Adelaide Strikers win on Friday, the Blues will get their second place back. But the better news for the Magenta is - they are in the playoffs. Now it remains to be seen whether they can lock their second spot.
STEVE O'Keefe HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. O'Keefe says that it is not very often that you get a Man Of The Match award for 1/26. Says that everyone knows if Lynn does not get out early, then there is a lot of damage that he could inflict. Praises the entire bowling group for bowling as a unit. Praises Jackson Bird for bowling upfront and Dwarshuis and Curran for improving every game. Is delighted to have Smith back in the squad and is relishing the opportunity to play with Josh Hazlewood next week. On being asked about Smith's presence, Steve smiles and says that Steven is always wanting to win and contributing in any possible manner. Is happy with their second spot right now, but does not want to take anything for granted. Adds that their last game is at the SCG against the Melbourne Renegades and if his team wins that, they could have the possibility of hosting a home final.
Earlier in the evening, the Sixers came out with full force after electing to bowl. A disciplined performance saw them restrict the Heat to 126, which turned out to be paltry in the end. They did not allow any batsman to settle, a testimony to their effort to sustain pressure.
A forgetful game for the Heat both with bat and ball. James Pattinson was their sole hero. First, he top scored with the bat and then, turned out to be the most efficient bowler with the ball. But sadly, nothing much came out of it overall. They have lost and lost very badly, which further pushes down their already poor net run rate.
127 as a target was never expected to send shivers down the spine of the batting side and it did not. Problem for the Heat was, it challenged the Sixers to try and finish the game quickly and that is exactly what the duo of Philippe and Vince did. The Englishman took on the bowling attack and raced to a quickfire half century while Philippe, after starting slowly, picked up his pace towards the end. Smith was dismissed (guffawing ha ha ha, a rarity) but it did not matter. By the time he arrived itself, the game was in the bag.
Right then! Did not quite live up to the expectations, did it? No master-apprentice show, no de Villiers magic, no Lynnsanity. A one-sided drub by the Sixers and they have now registered their 6th successive win against the Heat at the 'Gabba.
