That's it then from this game and Jamaica Tallawahs winning the game means that the playoffs race is heating up nicely. The Tallwahs have managed to pull away a bit from the chasing pack as the Royals remain firmly in pole position. Action in the Caribbean Premier League 2022 continues on Saturday, the 17th of September with a doubleheader. The first game will be played between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Saint Lucia Kings. Imad Wasim (3 for 14) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his exceptional spell with the ball. Imad says that they played really good cricket but both the teams played well. Earlier in the game, Rovman Powell won the toss and put Barbados Royals into bat first which proved to be an excellent decision as Jamaica Tallawahs had the opposition reeling at 17/3 in the Powerplay. It was then a power-packed innings by Quinton de Kock that brought the Royals back to life and his score of 74 off just 43 balls alongside a solid knock by David Miller saw them post 150 runs on the board. Imad Wasim was the pick of the bowlers for the Tallawahs but the likes of Amir, Allen and Green too bowled well. In reply, Jamaica Tallawahs came out all guns blazing and seemed to be cruising to victory at one stage. We had a couple of rain breaks and both of them proved crucial. The first one allowed the Royals back into the game and the second one proved to be decisive as the Tallwahs were able to maintain their score above the DLS par score.
Barbados Royals will feel a bit hard done by the rain but to be fair, it was the first rain delay that got them back into the game. They looked down and out at the halfway stage but everything changed after the interval. Obed McCoy was fantastic throughout but after the break, it was Jason Holder who turned the tide in his side's favor with three quick wickets. After getting ahead of the game in the latter stages of the chase, the rain fell once again and this time it didn't stop, not allowing the Royals to try and finish the comeback and they succumbed to their first defeat.
Chasing a decent target, Jamaica Tallawahs got off to an absolutely blistering start inside the Powerplay as Brandon King and Amir Jangoo took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners. Jangoo got out after playing a blistering cameo but King carried on. With 9 wickets in hand and less than a run-a-ball needed at the first rain delay, one would have thought that the Tallawahs would breeze to victory. It wasn't the case as after the game resumed, the wickets tumbled left, right and center and the scoring rate was decreased so much that the Tallwahs fell behind the DLS par score. Thanks to a maximum hit by their skipper in the over before the final rain delay, they managed to escape from the clutches of defeat.
That's it then, it is official and the dreadful news we all knew was coming, no further play is possible due to rain and Jamaica Tallawahs have won by 6 runs (via DLS method). It was a topsy-turvy game, swinging to-and-fro in that second half but it is the Tallawahs who have handed the Royals their first loss of the competition.
UPDATE 12.02 am IST (6.32 pm GMT, the previous day) - The rain in Port of Spain seems to show no signs of slowing down at the moment and maybe, we have seen the last of play in this game. Just to reiterate, Jamaica Tallawahs will win via DLS method if indeed the game ends now. Stick around, we shall have some official word sooner rather than later.
UPDATE 11.42 pm IST (6.12 pm GMT) - The live pictures from the ground depict that the rain is still coming down heavily. If it stays this way, then all the momentum Barbados Royals gained after the previous rain delay will be undone and that one shot from Rovman Powell will prove to be the difference. UPDATE 11.27 pm IST (5.57 pm GMT) - There is a huge dark cloud over the ground and the umpires decide to take the players off the field. The DLS par score at the moment is 120 and Jamaica Tallawahs are ahead of it, thanks to that six that Rovman Powell hit in the previous over.
