Australia Women Under-19 beat West Indies Women Under-19 by 7 wickets
Right then, the Australians managed a brilliant victory dominating in all facets of the game against the West Indies and retaining the top spot on the points table. The Under 19 Women's T20 World Cup now moves its focus to the next double-header day which is on the 26th of January, Sunday, where the Sri Lanka Women Under-19 face Scotland Women Under-19 at 8 am IST (2.30 am GMT) followed by India Women Under-19 taking on Bangladesh Women Under-19 at 12 pm IST (6.30 am GMT) but you can always join us early for all the pre-match excitement. Till then, have a nice day!
The captain of Australia Women Under-19, Lucy Hamilton says that the bowlers performed in unison. Adds that they have a really deep bowling order and everyone reacted to the situation of the game. Also mentions that they bat deep as well and everyone has got an opportunity to show their skills. Adds that it is just about doing the right things and making a habit of it. Ends by saying that they have a three-day rest now, and are looking forward to their upcoming match against Sri Lanka.
The captain of West Indies Women Under-19, Samara Ramnath says that they were behind in the executions of plans and the winning mindset was never there on the field. She further adds that against a team like Australia, they can not afford to make mistakes as they will make you pay every time. She ends by saying that they will be looking to bat well in the further games of the tournament.
... TIME FOR THE PRESENTATIONS ...
Eleanor Larosa is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her spectacular bowling figures. She says that the aim was simple to target the stumps. Adds that as a pace bowler, she has worked on the pace offs and other variations. Mentions that the team had things under control and all the players did their job well.
In response to that, the Australia Women Under-19 chased down the total with ease despite being 1 down after the first 2 balls of the innings. The pair of Lucy Hamilton and Kate Pelle did well in the middle to stitch up a partnership and then the game was finished well by Caoimhe Bray and Ella Briscoe, getting their team to a win in just 10.5 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
West Indies Women Under-19 were asked to bat first and it was a disappointing performance by the batters. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and Australia Women Under-19 kept capitalising. Only two batters could cross the double digits and it was just a procession for the rest. Eleanor Larosa picked 2 wickets for just 6 runs in her 4 overs and with support from the other bowlers, Australia women managed to bowl out West Indies Women Under-19 for a mere 53 runs on the board.
Australia Women Under-19 have won a comprehensive game by 7 wickets with 9.1 overs still remaining in the innings. Brilliant team performance from the Australians to get to their 4th win in the tournament, standing tall at the top of the table.

UPDATE - 8.30 am GMT - Hope is powerful. It wins and the rain has ceded away! However, the conditions remain overcast, but nothing as such for the play to not continue. The umpires and players are out to the middle, and we are all set for the resumption of play. Lucy Hamilton the Aussie skipper is in at number 3. She joins Kate Pelle in the middle. Selena Ross to complete her over. Also, kudos to the ground staff for getting the field ready for play so quickly. ALSO, WE HAVE NOT LOST ANY OVERS!!!
UPDATE - 8.26 am GMT - Unfortunately, it is still raining in Bangi and the waiting game continues. Stay tuned for further updates.
It is Super Saturday, so worry not, folks! You won't remain short of cricketing action as the day's roster is filled up with non-stop matches across the continents and time zones. In Adelaide, the third and the final WT20I of the Women's Ashes has just kicked off with Australia Women opting to bat first against England Women. In franchise cricket, it is a double-header day as both the International League T20 and the SA20 League serve back-to-back matches for all your entertainment.
Talking about cricket elsewhere, news coming in from Multan is not quite pleasing for West Indies. The tourists from the Caribbean have been bundled out on a meager total of 163 runs and it just took the first session of the first day for Paksitan to do so. Batters' nemesis on Pakistani soil, Noman Ali snagged a spectacular 6-fer while the others too chipped in with timely wickets. For West Indies, Gudakesh Motie was the highest score, and the only one who could score a half-century. Interestingly, the top order failed to provide any momentum, and it was the tailenders who propelled the tourists to this total. Out of 163, the tailenders contributed with 106 runs with the numbers 10 and 11 both crossing the 20-run mark.
UPDATE - 8.06 am GMT - Well, rain may have interrupted this game, but there is some positive news coming in from Sarawak. The weather has shown some mercy over there and Match number 4 between Ireland Women Under-19 and South Africa Women Under-19 is just about to begin. The toss has just taken place and Ireland Women Under-19 have opted to field first. While we wait for the rain to stop in Bangi, you can simply switch tabs and follow that game for now!
UPDATE - 8 am GMT - Uh, oh! A threateningly dark cloud is lurking just above the ground and it has gotten fairly dark out there. We can already see a few raindrops pouring down. The ground staff is all prepared with the covers near the ropes. Ughhh! There come the sheets out in the middle as the rain has gotten a bit harder now. The umpires request the players to get off the field. And now, the pitch and the squares have been fully covered. We just hope that this is a passing shower as we can also see a tinge of blue overhead in the vicinity. Stay tuned for further updates.
