Mst Sumaiya Akther Suborna and Afia Ashima Era stood out as the only batters to show resilience, managing to put up some resistance in the middle. However, they couldn’t build on their starts or make a significant impact, as the Australian bowlers ensured Bangladesh were restricted to a modest total of just 91 runs by the end of their innings.
Ultimately, it was Ella Briscoe’s composure under pressure that guided Australia across the finish line. The turning point for Bangladesh, however, was their inability to capitalize during that second-wicket partnership, which proved costly towards the end. Nonetheless, their spirited fight and ability to turn this low total into a nail-biting contest will give them plenty to build on for the rest of the tournament.
Bangladesh Women Under-19, despite a few early fielding lapses, regrouped impressively as their spinners caused serious trouble for the Australian batters. From a commanding 50/1, Australia stumbled to 77/7, giving Bangladesh a fighting chance to pull off an upset. The spinners’ brilliance and relentless fight kept them in the game until the very end.
Chasing just 92 runs, Australia Women Under-19 got off to a strong start, with Kate Pelle and Ines McKeon taking the attack to the spinners early on. After Ines departed, Lucy Hamilton stepped in and built a solid partnership with Pelle, propelling Australia to a comfortable 50/1. However, what followed was a dramatic collapse of epic proportions.
Australia hold their nerve and seal the game with two wickets in hand! While Bangladesh fell short, they turned this low-scoring contest into a thrilling match and have plenty to be proud of.
