Australia Women beat India Women by 19 runs
That's all from Canberra - The first punch was landed by India, but Australia hit back with one of their own. The series is now all square, and the multi-format contest remains evenly poised. The action moves to Adelaide for the third and final T20I, set to be played on Saturday, 21st February, with the first ball scheduled for 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT). As always, you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Applied the learnings from the series opener - Sophie Molineux, the skipper of Australia, says it was a good game with Georgia Voll setting it for them, but India came hard in the first innings. Reckons that they didn't have to change much, they learned from the first game and they held in as long as possible. Admits they wanted to squeeze when the opportunity arrived and the players came on the board. Talking about Smriti Mandhana's wicket, Sophie feels it was a key wicket, and they had to take the review.
Batters need to take more accountability - The Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, says collapses can happen in a chase, but admits the batters needed to take more responsibility. She feels restricting Australia to a manageable total was the biggest positive from the game. She adds that while there were a few useful partnerships, it ultimately comes down to taking the game deeper and having one batter assume responsibility to see the team home.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Strong start, stifled finish - Earlier, after being asked to bat first on a true surface, Australia laid a strong foundation with a 128-run opening stand. After struggling for timing early on, Georgia Voll found her rhythm and never looked back, while Beth Mooney found it hard to maintain the same tempo. All it took was one opening for India to claw their way back into the contest. From being 120/0 at the end of 14 overs, Australia could muster only 163. Those who followed after the opening stand was broken were unable to sustain the momentum, but credit must also go to India for the way they executed at the death.
Australia's tightening of the screws - The boundaries dried up, Richa Ghosh was tied down, and although Harmanpreet Kaur managed to find a few, the mounting pressure eventually told. The game cracked open with the fall of Kaur, who was unable to see her side through in her record-breaking 356th appearance, becoming the most capped women’s international cricketer. India fell away in the chase rather spectacularly, losing 6 wickets for 7 runs as Australia sealed a 19-run win.
Early momentum, missed opportunity - After failing to make the platform count with the bat, the last thing Australia would have wanted was a wicketless Powerplay, and India raced to 56 without loss in the first six overs. However, the breakthrough of the opening stand allowed Australia to claw their way back into the contest. Given the start provided by the openers, Jemimah Rodrigues needed to settle in alongside Smriti Mandhana and steer the chase calmly, but she threw her wicket away. Mandhana perished soon after, and from there, Australia tightened the noose.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Georgia Voll wins the award for her career-best T20I score of 88 runs from 57 balls. She says it was nice to contribute to the team. After their last match, they wanted to put in a big performance. Mentions they are looking forward to going to Adelaide and putting in another performance. Acknowledges Sophie Molineux's captaincy, saying she kept it nice and tight and even helped the team with a couple of wickets.
A hard-fought win for Australia - They level the ledger in this multi-format series, 1-1 in the T20I leg, with two points apiece overall. The story of the game was similar for both sides, with each managing to claw their way back after conceding a solid opening stand. But Australia truly barged through the door once they sensed an opportunity and pressed home the advantage decisively.

A chance missed by Mooney! A good length delivery on middle, nipping in. Kaur gives herself room as she tries to go downtown but misses and the ball whizzes past the leg pole. Beth Mooney, standing up to the stumps, fails to gather the ball as it pops out of her gloves. The UltraEdge shows that the ball grazed the toe end of the blade. How costly will this prove?

A strange review from Australia! On a length, shaping back in, on middle and leg. Kaur brings her bat out in front. She is beaten on the inside edge and gets hit on the front pad. The batters cross for a leg bye as the ball drops on the leg side. A polite enquiry from Beth Mooney while the bowler did not even appeal. Sophie Molineux takes the opinion of the keeper and takes the review. The UltraEdge shows no bat and the Ball Tracking has the ball going past the leg stump, with even the impact being umpire's call.

DRINKS BREAK! Australia have done well to wrestle back the initiative after breaking the opening stand. Just 17 runs have come in the 3.4 overs since the Powerplay. OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Oh, Australia weren't too confident with the appeal, but they have a wicket out of nowhere. Angles a length delivery down leg. Smriti Mandhana hangs back to clip but seems to miss it. Kim Garth puts up an appeal, and Beth Mooney, the keeper, joins her, but it is turned down. Australia think of a review, and Sophie Molineux takes her chance by going for the review on the final second. The replay loads. UltraEdge shows a spike as the ball brushes the bat. Smriti has to go.
Strangled down leg? Not given by the umpire. Sophie Molineux takes the review just before the timer runs out. Good take by Beth Mooney whilst standing up to the stumps. There was a noise, but did it come off the bat? Looking at the replays on the big screen, the Australians think it has come off the pad, and they have gone back to their positions.
