Earlier in the game, Japan Under-19 displayed commendable resilience by batting out their full 50 overs to post a total exceeding 200, anchored by Hugo Tani-Kelly's unbeaten 79 and a crucial recovery partnership with Montgomery Hara-Hinze. Despite a mid-innings collapse triggered by Australian leg-spinner Naden Cooray and an early strike from William Byrom, Japan fought back well, though they benefitted significantly from 30 extras.
It was a tough day at the office for the Japan Under-19 bowlers, who simply had no answer to the Australian onslaught. Nihar Parmar eventually managed to claim the big wicket of the centurion, but it was far too little, too late. Charles Hinze chipped in with the wicket of Hogan, but those were the only two successes Japan could celebrate. In the end, they were completely outplayed by a superior batting performance.
While Malajczuk provided the fireworks, Nitesh Samuel played the perfect second fiddle. He looked composed throughout his innings, anchoring the chase with a well-made half-century. The opening pair put on a massive 135-run stand that crushed Japan's hopes. Although Steven Hogan couldn't contribute much and departed in the 21st over, the result was never in doubt, and Australia cruised to a commanding victory in what turned out to be a very one-sided contest.
Australia Under-19 have made a mockery of the 202-run target. It was the Will Malajczuk show from the very first ball as he unleashed havoc on the Japan bowling attack. Scoring a blistering century, Malajczuk smashed 102 runs off just 55 deliveries, putting the game effectively out of reach within the first hour. His dominance was absolute, and by the time he fell in the 16th over, the damage was well and truly done.
