Veteran Australian pacer Ryan Harris has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, with immediate effect. The bowler played 27 Tests and 21 ODIs for the national team. (Also read: 'Ryan Harris' absence won't hurt Aussies')
Plagued by a right knee injury, Harris was dropped from the upcoming Ashes - later replaced by Pat Cummins. His injury reportedly forced him to call time on his career - one which saw him claim 113 Test and 44 ODI wickets. "Given the news I received yesterday, and after talking it over with my family, I know now is the right is the time to step away from cricket," Harris was quoted as saying. "I'm pretty lucky, I have had a wonderful career and nothing made me prouder than pulling on the baggy green."
The New South Wales-born cricketer made his international debut in an ODI against South Africa in 2009 - at age 29. A year later, he was picked to play the Wellington Test against New Zealand. Nicknamed 'Rhino,' Harris has been a key part of the Aussie unit each time he has been fit enough to play.
Fitness though was a major issue throughout Harris' international career.
