3rd Test: Vijay, Pujara Fight Hard After Steve Smith's 192

Steve Smith amassed his career-best score of 192 as Australia snatched the advantage away from India's hapless bowlers on Day 2 of MCG Test (All images AP and AFP).

Continuing from an overnight score of 72, Smith made up for the slow scoring rate by racing away to his ton and sending Indian bowlers on a leather hunt.

Smith's positive intent was further accentuated by India's poor bowling effort as he got a lot of loose deliveries to put away early on in the first session.

Indians continued their short-pitched bowling ploy to Brad Haddin, who looked in good touch and scored his first half-century since January 2014.

Smith and Haddin added 110 runs for the 6th wicket.

Following Haddin's dismissal, Mitchell Johnson came out and played his shots but was undone by Ravichandran Ashwin's delivery and was stumped for 28.

Ryan Harris joined Smith and started to build another partnership

In a session when Australia went after the Indian bowlers, Harris brought up his half-century, 3rd in Tests.

While Harris was busy playing his shots, Smith brought up his 150 and soon went past his previous best of 163.

When Smith was bowled by Yadav, he was eight short of a maiden double ton. His fall for 192 brought an end to Aussie innings at 530.

Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay gave India a solid start but Ryan Harris brought an end to their stand, dismissing the former for 28.

Cheteshwar Pujara (25) and Murali Vijay (55) added an unbeaten stand of 55 to take India to 108/1 at close of play, trailing Australia by 422 runs.
