Athens :
World champion hurdler Jana Pittman hopes to compete at the Olympics two weeks after undergoing an operation to repair damage in her right knee. "It's a minor miracle that she's here in the first place," said team spokeswoman Katie Hodge. Pittman tore a ligament in her right knee warming up for the 400-metre hurdles in Zurich, Switzerland. She had arthroscopic surgery in London last weekend, and doctors gave her a better than 50 percent chance of competing Saturday in Athens. Australian team officials place the figure at 70 percent. "I'm not certain I'll get to the final. That's something I'm not certain of yet. But I know that if I do get there, then I'm pretty confident," said Pittman. (AP)
