The Royal Challengers Bangalore finally tasted success in franchise cricket as the Smriti Mandhana-led women's team went on to win the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 title on Sunday. RCB's victory against the Delhi Capitals saw Mandhana's women's team register its name in the history books while the men's team continues to be without a title in 16 years of its IPL participation. As fans took to social media to congratulate RCB on the win, Rajasthan Royals shared a meme that set the internet ablaze.
In their post, Rajasthan Royals drew parallels between the RCB women's team's title triumph and that of a scene from the famous comedy TV show, "Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma". With the post, the Royals seem to have taken a subtle dig at RCB's men's side.
Rajasthan weren't the only ones to see the funny side of RCB's women's team lifting the title before the men's. Several other social media users tried to troll the the Bengaluru franchise on the same subject.
As for the match, an all-round performance which was led by a solid knock by Ellyse Perry and brilliant bowling spells from spinners Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux powered RCB to their first-ever WPL with an eight-wicket triumph in the title clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The tournament saw India's young and talented players shine in moments when their respective teams needed them the most. Arundhati Reddy, Minnu Mani, Shubha Satheesh and Vrinda Dinesh are some of the examples of the local talent that was unearthed during the electrifying tournament.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah, former India cricketers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar were some of the celebrity names to congratulate RCB on their success. Virat Kohli, a part of RCB's men's team, had a video call with Smriti Mandhana and others after the team's success.
