At the start of Day 3 Australia were trailing by 91 in their first innings. Bot Brad Haddin, in the able company of No.11 batsman Nathan Lyon, put on 40 runs before James Anderson sniffed out the final wicket.

Alastair Cook started well for the visitors. He scored 51, England's highest of the innings, before being dismissed by tormentor-in-chief Mitchell Johnson.
