Sri Lanka defeated India by three wickets (DLS method) in a run-chase of 227 runs in the third ODI at Colombo on Friday. Avishka Fernando was the player of the match and was also the top scorer for Sri Lanka with his 72 runs, he was well supported by Bhanuka Rajapaksa who stood with him for a partnership of 109 runs for the second wicket. Indian batsmen could not convert their starts while batting first in the final ODI and the visitors were all-out for just 225 runs in 43.1 overs. The pitch had helped spinners a lot, with Akila Dananjaya and Praveen Jayawickrama bagging three wickets apiece. For India, Rahul Chahar was the star performer with his 3 wickets on ODI debut, while fellow debutant Chetan Sakariya picked up two wickets as well. Now, the two teams will face off in 3-match T20I series starting July 25.

Right then. 227 needed for Sri Lanka as India get an extra run, with the DLS updated score. Sri Lanka will look to avoid a whitewashing at the hands of India. They will believe and will come out, looking to take the final game. The visitors have a rather inexperienced bowling attack and they will want to leave a mark, in this game. Will Sri Lanka chase this down easily? Or will India make things harder for the hosts? Join us for the run chase shortly.

Sri Lanka will be pleased with how they have bowled in this game. Yes, they were not at their best, before the rain break, but when they came out after that, they let none of the Indian batters survive. From a position of strength, India slipped and were reeling, all thanks to the spin duo of Akila Dananjaya and Praveen Jayawickrama. They both shared 6 wickets and ran through the middle order of India, after the rain break. Dushmantha Chameera got a wicket early on and then, the last wicket. Dasun Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne got one each and were decent too. Brilliant from the Islanders!

India's batting can be cut into two halves, perfectly. They started off slightly poorly as Dhawan went back quickly. But then, Shaw and Samson raised a 74-run stand, before Shaw missed out on his half-century, getting out on 49. Samson, followed suit, as he lost out on his debut half-century, giving an easy catch when he was on 46. Yadav and Pandey were looking assured, but then rain decided to pay a visit and after play resumed after the break, it seemed that the Indians lost their rhythm, and also, the Sri Lankan spinners got some more purchase off the deck. From 157/3, they slipped to 195/8. Saini and Chahar showed some fight and pushed India to around the 220-run mark, before India were bowled out.

What an inspired bowling display this has been by the Lankans here. Their spinners have spun the Indian batters in a web and have bundled them out for 225, which is a rather tame score. If not for Navdeep Saini and Rahul Chahar towards the end, they might have not even crossed 200.

43.1WDushmantha Chameera to Navdeep Saini
OUT! CAUGHT! That's the end of the Indian innings. Chameera bowls a stinging bouncer into the body and there's nothing much Saini could do about it, really. Tries to fend it away but the ball gets the glove and pops up towards point and Avishka Fernando runs in to take a simple catch. INDIA END ON 225!

42.60to Chetan Sakariya
A bit fuller around off, Sakariya lets it go.
-
42.51to Navdeep Saini
Length ball, driven down to long on by Saini for one.
-
42.4Wto Rahul Chahar
OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! A good bumper on middle and Chahar finally tries to hook after ducking down a lot previously, only manages to top edge it really high and just past the wicket on the leg side. Chamika Karunaratne calls for it early and takes it comfortably in the end.
