Teams are currently finalising their player retention list ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, expected to be held next month. The IPL governing council has set October 31 as the deadline for the teams to submit their list. Ahead of the deadline, rumours have started floating on who the teams might keep heading into the IPL 2025 mega auction. With only a handful of days remaining for the deadline, let's take a look at five retention rumours that have been floating on social media:
1. KL Rahul to leave Lucknow Super Giants
LSG are set to mutually part ways with skipper KL Rahul as the player has reportedly expressed the desire to leave the franchise.
After leading the franchise to back-to-back IPL playoffs in 2022 and 2023, Rahul was unable to guide the team to a top four finish last season.
2. Mayank Yadav to earn big contract
Pacer Mayank Yadav enjoyed a breakout season in the IPL earlier this year, despite LSG failing to reach the playoffs.
Having also made his India debut recently, LSG are set to retain Mayank for a big price to stop him from entering the auction.
3. Rishabh Pant to leave Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant recently hinted at leaving his team and coming in the auction, through a social media post.
Pant has been part of DC (previously Delhi Daredevils) since his debut season in 2016. As per reports, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are one of the sides interesting in buying Pant.
4. MS Dhoni's uncertain future
Amid uncertainity over his playing future in the IPL, CSK icon MS Dhoni spoke about keeping himself in the best possible shape to play cricket for the "next few years".
It has been reported that Dhoni is likely to meet CSK officials to discuss his future either on October 29 or 30 ahead of the deadline.
5. Mumbai Indians to retain Rohit Sharma
There has been a lot of questions surrounding Rohit Sharma's future ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction with several media reports suggesting that the veteran India batter can leave MI.
However, a recent report claimed that the franchise is all set to retain Rohit, having stripped him off captaincy duties ahead of last season.
