The IPL 2024 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders will go down in history as one of the most thrilling contests. Chasing the gigantic total of 223, RCB fell short by just one run and lost the game on the last ball of the match. Apart from this nail-biting chase, this match grabbed everyone's attention after RCB star Virat Kohli got involved in a heated argument with the umpire, following his dismissal on the delivery of Harshit Rana.
However, Kohli's argument was not the only piece of disagreement that took place during the match as KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir was also involved in a heated discussion with the fourth umpire.
During the 19th over, when RCB needed 31 off 12 balls to win, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was captured on the camera, conveying something to his team in the dugout. A few moments later, Gambhir and KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit were seen arguing with the fourth umpire, regarding an unknown issue.
Later on, it was revealed that KKR wanted spinner Sunil Narine to get replaced by Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a substitute fielder for the last two overs as the former was suffering from pain in his toe. However, the umpire rejected KKR's plea, resulting in Gambhir getting involved in an argument.
Talking about Narine's injury, the renowned all-rounder was stuck on his toe by RCB pacer Yash Dayal in the second over of KKR's innings.
"It takes a lot off your body and drains you out completely because you go through so many emotions. It's tough to stay calm but I'm elated. We got two points on the board and that's all that matters. It's extremely tough when the pressure is on, I feel that every individual should put their hands up and take the responsibility," said Iyer after clinching the close victory.
"Russell did that by picking up two wickets and completely changed the game in our favor, that kind of attitude is needed in the team. It's a funny game, when you need 18 runs off 6 balls, the pressure is on the bowler. One six here and there, it completely changes the momentum. It is important that we maintain our calmness and stay in the present and make the batter hit where you want them to hit," he added.
KKR will now be squaring off against Punjab Kings in their next IPL 2024 match on Friday. On the other hand, RCB will be taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.
